Jewson has opened nominations
for its
2017 Building Better Communities
competition,
and is calling on people in South Wales to nominate community
building
projects that are in need of a helping hand. This year’s total regional prize fund has doubled to £200,000 and is open to applications from improvement
across England,
whether it’s a roofer who has fi xed a leak in the village hall or a builder who has supported a local children’s charity. The winner of the Trade Hero category will receive £50,000 worth of building materials to enable them to complete a worthy community project. Mark Rayfi eld, CEO of Jewson, explained: “Since

2015, Building Better Communities has helped over 40 community projects across the UK. This year the competition is supported by a number of Jewson partners including Velux, Norbord, Marshalls, Polypipe, Recticel, Tarmac and British Gypsum. Community
groups and
tradespeople have until 5th May 2017 to put forward their

EE to recruit 60 contact centre roles in Merthyr Tydfi l
EE, the UK’s biggest mobile operator and part of BT Group, have announced it will hire 60 new advisers to its contact centre in Merthyr Tydfi l. The busy call centre already employs more than 800 people with the vast majority coming from the surrounding local area. These new roles are a part of recruitment drive to hire 800 contact centre advisers for EE’s sites across the UK. As well as Merthyr Tydfi l, these advisers will fi ll positions in North Tyneside, Darlington, Greenock, Plymouth and Doxford. Of the 800 new advisers over 100 will be apprentices hired as a part of the EE apprenticeship programme. This latest recruitment drive follows EE recently becoming the fi rst UK mobile operator to bring back all customer service calls to the UK and Ireland, creating over 1,000 new jobs in 2016 alone. Over 100 of the roles will be offered as part of EE’s apprenticeship programme, giving people the opportunity to learn new skills, gain nationally recognised qualifi cations and build a long term career with EE. The company has recruited over 1,300 apprentices since it launched the programme in 2012. As well as investing in UK jobs, EE is making signifi cant investments in Wales’ 4G network taking coverage from 40% of its landmass at the beginning of the year, to 90% by the end of 2017.
