Cardiff’s local Volvo dealership, Volvo Cars Cardiff, continues to play its part in Volvo Car UK reaching its sales target of 60,000 cars a year by 2020, as the Swedish manufacturer experienced further sales growth in the first quarter of 2017. In the UK, Volvo recorded sales of 9,710 in March,
up 30% over the same month last year. Sales for the first three months of 2017 totalled 13,582 cars, an increase of 18% versus the same period in 2016, with the XC60 coming out as the best-selling model so far this year, followed by the V40 and the XC90. NATIONAL ROAD SAFETY CAMPAIGN FEATURES TYRESAFE’S MESSAGE TO CHECK TYRES BEFORE TRAVELLING
TyreSafe’s tyre safety awareness message to check tyres before travelling this Easter is being featured in a national advertising campaign from Highways England and THINK! TyreSafe has campaigned for ten years to raise the awareness of the importance of correct tyre maintenance and the dangers of defective and illegal tyres, working closely with key road safety stakeholders including Highways England. The national advertising over Easter will
help reinforce TyreSafe’s ongoing road safety
initiatives and spread the message to check tyres before a long journey to an even broader audience. Half of all breakdowns attended by Highways England are caused by simple mechanical problems which could be avoided with simple checks. Nearly a quarter are caused by tyre problems. However, breakdowns are not the only concern - tyres account for 40% of fatal or serious injuries caused by vehicle defect-related incidents. Egg-cellent Easter advice from TyreSafe: Pressure – correct tyre pressures are shown on a sticker in your car’s door shut, filler cap or in the owner’s manual. Use an accurate pressure gauge to ensure they are right for the load as part of your pre-journey planning Condition – stones and other objects in the tread should be removed. Bulges, cracks, cuts and embedded objects are cause for concern and need to be checked by a professional Tread – use a 20p coin to see whether your tyres’ tread depths are at least 1.6mm. Insert the 20p at several points across and around each tyre. If you can see the coin’s outer rim at any point the tyre is illegal and must be changed immediately.
