Choosing a name for a new housing development isn’t easy, with many diff erent factors to take into consideration. When it came to naming their new development near Lisvane, Redrow Homes South Wales decided to seek some outside help... Redrow ran a competition with local school, Corpus Christi Catholic High School, for one of the pupils to help name the new development. Corpus Christi sits opposite the site of
the new development and
the competition is the beginning of what promises to be an ongoing, positive relationship between the award-winning housebuilder and the secondary school. T e competition ran for a week, and received hundreds of entries collected from all Year 8 classes within the school. Redrow received some interesting entries, including Donald Trump Tower, but in the end the winner was Joe Leslie with his entry of Ty Draw Estate. T e name comes from Ty Draw road, on which both the school and the new development are located. Redrow took
inspiration from
Joe’s entry, eventually deciding on Plas Ty Draw as the name for their new development. As a thank you for holding the competition and helping to name the development Redrow gave a cheque of £150, £100 for the school and £50 for Joe, in a small ceremony held at the school. Corpus Christi will be donating their cheque to the Chris Babu fund, and when asked what he would
spend his cheque on Joe said he was planning to put it into savings. Some of the other entries into the competition will be put forward by Redrow to the Local Authority as suggestions for possible street names within the new development. Angela T omas, Head Teacher at Corpus Christi Catholic High School, said: “T e children were really excited to have the chance to name the new development and had a lot of
fun coming up with
suggestions. T e new development will be very close to the school so we’re grateful to Redrow Homes for this opportunity for the children to have some involvement and for their generous donations to the school and to Joe.” Kate Lacey, Area Sales Manager for Redrow Homes South Wales, said: “It was a pleasure to hold this competition with Corpus Christi to name the new development. We had some great entries and it wasn’t easy to choose an overall winner, but Joe’s suggestion of incorporating the name of Ty Draw road into the name of the development was a good one and we were delighted to present him with his prize. “At Redrow it’s incredibly important to us to become involved in local communities to ensure that our developments are benefi cial to people already living in the area, as well as the new residents. We hope that this is the beginning of a really positive relationship between For more information, please visit
