arah Teasdale, founder of Educatus education consultancy, understands only too well the stresses of an international move with a family in tow. Having


moved to Ireland, Kenya, Abu Dhabi, Bahrain and back to the UK, making education choices for her three young daughters along the way, she finds that helping children settle into a new school has become almost second nature. Ms Teasdale established Educatus in 2013 following a long


career in teaching and international education consultancy. After teaching in UK schools in both the state and independent sectors, she moved to teaching posts in Ireland and then Bahrain. In Kenya, she established a supply-teaching agency for international schools in Nairobi. In the United Arab Emirates, she was engaged in curriculum development. On her return to the UK, she joined relocation management company Sterling to establish its in-house education consultancy. Educatus has grown rapidly to become a respected education


consultancy, working primarily with relocation companies to find school, college and university places for the children of families relocating mainly to the UK and Ireland. Helping families from across the globe make school choices, it was described by the awards judges as “a clear winner” and praised as “a forward- thinking company that goes above and beyond to deliver for clients and practises continuous improvement”. The judging panel also remarked on how the Educatus entry


clearly demonstrated the difference that a small firm could make to the experiences of relocating families. “Educatus needs to be agile,” says Sarah Teasdale. “As a small company, we pride ourselves on being able to respond quickly to changing situations. Our service is delivered with a careful balance tipped towards empathy, but always aimed at managing expectations.” Sarah’s own experience of the relocation sector means that


the Educatus offer is firmly rooted in an understanding of processes and timelines, as well as the pressures faced when liaising with the HR departments of large corporates.

London, believes that it is this understanding that sets Educatus apart. “We know that moving a family from one country to another can be culturally, emotionally and educationally challenging, so having a team of consultants who understand the potentially fraught nature of the work is of huge importance to us,” he says. As a former teacher and the mother of internationally educated


children, Sarah Teasdale has a deep-rooted understanding of teaching methods and teaching programmes across the world. “Her knowledge of the curricula of all countries is exceptional,” says Heather Mulkey, marketing and admissions officer for the International School of London (ISL) Group. “This ensures that families are prepared for transitions from one national system to another.” Sarah Teasdale believes that her personal experience of


relocation, and that of her team, counts for a great deal when it comes to helping families through the complex world of education and schools in the global mobility context. “We’ve been very lucky to establish good relationships with


the relocation business,” she says, “I think that, as a team, we have a good understanding of the process because we’re all mothers and we’ve travelled with our own children. We also understand the fast-paced nature of the relocation business, and that makes us quite different from many other education consultant companies. “Those of us who are involved in the relocation business


know that the success of a family move is vital to the success of the assignment as a whole. “We have a small team that works really hard. For them,


winning this award is going to be hugely affirming, and, even though we are quite new, it is now recognised that we are needed in the relocation sector.”
