The European Food Safety Authority in 2013 ruled that neonics were “unacceptable for many crops,” and should only be used on crops not atractive to bees. Yet the Pesticide Action Network claims research has shown neonics enter both soil and groundwater, where they accumulate and “present long- term toxicity to the hive as well as to other species such as songbirds.”
An independent scientific review commissioned by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature has also concluded that neonics cause serious harm to birds, earthworms, snails and other invertebrates.
