Marston chief executive, Gareth Hughes, has won the Transformational Leader prize at the London & South EY Entrepreneur Of The Year awards, which were held at BAFTA 195 Piccadilly. The award was presented by BBC newsreader Naga Haggar, and the judges said: “Gareth perceptibly challenged a traditional market, which struck a chord with our judges for this category. “He has been instrumental in creating a culture of openness within Marston, and the industry as a whole, by treating customers fairly and managing the most vulnerable in society.” Mr Hughes said: “I am delighted to receive this award,

which is positive recognition of the services that Marston provides, and the values we seek to uphold. It shows that doing good business is good for business. “It is also as much an award for the 6,000 staff and self- employed agents that work so hard to recover £500m on behalf of taxpayers each year.”

A debtor application which has been developed for both Equita and Ross & Roberts has been launched and is now available in the Google Play Store; it works with all Android devices. This application allows customers to access their account and


make payments securely, quickly and conveniently. Customers can also check balances, request payment reminders, and manage their account accordingly. Further features will be added in due course. Neil Smith, managing director of Capita Enforcement, said:


“Giving people a wide range of payment options and trying to make the payment process as easy as possible is very important to us. Making payments using digital technology, especially via a mobile phone, is on the increase. Using the new application will not only help by making payments more straightforward and accessible, but also more manageable and secure.”


Manufacturing continues as the principle driving force behind business confidence in the UK, according to the latest results from the UK’s Credit Managers’ Index (CMI), the quarterly barometer from the Chartered Institute of Credit Management (CICM). The 1.3-point rise experienced in manufacturing sees the index


close at 64.0, another all-time CMI high. Philip King, chief executive of the CICM, said: “Despite Brexit


negotiations continuing and no immediate outcome in sight, credit professionals are noticing a resilient economy across most sectors.”
