MOTIV ATION
So here is something for each of you to consider. Perhaps what we think and do are important but are not the determining factors in which outcome will present itself. Perhaps in reality, the energy from what we say, think and do goes out from us into the world and mixes with the energy emanat- ing from everyone and everything we are in relationship with and it is from that mix where we will experience our outcomes.
Perhaps this is why one may follow one of those magical formulas for success but because the American economy declined, or there was a major drought somewhere in the world, or a conflict somewhere rattled the markets causing economic reverbera- tions the outcome or goal one was working so hard for was not to be.
We each have a say in the outcomes we experience but we are not the controlling factor.
The power from within... By David Bernard-Stevens
Everyday business men and women plus young entrepreneurs are blasted with rhetoric as to HOW to succeed. It is as if all of us un- knowingly have been taught and have expe- rienced things that tell us if we are to succeed professionally (or even personally) we must continue to look outside of ourselves… to others… in order to find that magical formula for success, dress or general well being. Sadly it is not true.
The answers do not exist outside of us. They exist within us.
So here is my first point: Quit trying to follow someone else’s thinking and or path. It was their path not yours and as such, what worked for them will not work for you. We each have within us a set of core values and a clear purpose, or path, that when we follow brings us into our own personal “zone”. It is like the athlete who, after doing something amazing where before he or she was just average saying, “I can’t explain it, I was just in a ‘zone’ and I could see everything and could do anything.”
We too can be in that zone but we must learn how to align our own thoughts and actions with our personal core values (that which we

would put ourselves into harm’s way for) and find that single path which brings us the most inner joy and fulfillment. You cannot find your own personal zone looking outside of you. It can only be found within your own spirit.
My second point: Most of us have been taught to set our goals high; then with determination, dedication, hard work and commitment we will accomplish those goals. Sadly, this simply is not true.
Not that goals, determination, dedication, hard work and commitment are bad things; it’s just that they by themselves cannot bring us the success we are looking for. And as a consequence, far too many bright and capable individuals who work so hard and are so committed do not meet their goals and be- come discouraged. Many will simply give up, procrastinate or find excuses for not taking another step forward.
For it is said that if hard work, determination, dedication and endurance will allow people to reach their goals; every women in Africa would be leaders of the universe and not poor, abused and oppressed as so many are today.
This brings us back to point #1 above… looking inward and not outward for our success. We must all begin finding and understanding what drives us (who we are) and knowing what it is that whenever we do it, we are filled with joy, meaning and fulfillment.
Perhaps it is designing software, building structures, teaching others to become more than what they believed they could be, writing, or being in the arts that brings that joy. Whatever it is for you it is important you find it and set your goals for being that person you were created to be and to con- tinue walking the path meant for you.
In this way and as shocking as this is to say, the outcomes will not matter. For if we take steps each day to be who we truly are within our spirits and think and do the things that take us down the path that will create our “zone”; then each step and each day will be meaningful, purposeful and best of all joyful no matter what outcome or circumstance we may find ourselves in.
We are powerful beings but the power is within us not outside of us. Understand- ing this and changing how we think and what we do to ways that are aligned with what we find within will allow us to create things others felt were impossible.
For it really is true that success (happiness) is not in what we accomplish but in HOW and WHY we did what we chose to do.
