Day’s Itsy Bitsy climbs to Spider status
J
ason Day’s victory at The Players Championship has prompted TaylorMade to
release the Spider Limited and Spider Limited Red putters. Last autumn, Day asked
TaylorMade for a putter similar in style to the Itsy Bitsy prototype with which he won the 2015 PGA Championship. He wanted a putter that incorporated red, a favourite
colour, so, inspired by the venomous Redback Spider indigenous to his native Australia, TaylorMade created a palate of options for him. When the final combination was selected, the world No.1
asked for two different models that he could test before deciding which to put into play. The Spider Limited putter features a black frame with Tour
Red bumpers while the Spider Limited Red incorporates Tour Red throughout the frame and bumpers. The Spider Limited Red made its PGA Tour debut with Day
at the RBC Heritage in mid-April and was used to win The Players Championship. With a stainless-steel frame and a lightweight aluminum
body that enables weight to be positioned at the extremities, Spider Limited putters provide improved stability and high MOI. Similar to the Itsy Bitsy, both models incorporate a milled aluminum Pure Roll insert with a gunmetal finish. Available from June 29, the Spider Limited has an RRP of
£199 and is available in 33in, 34in and 35in lengths while the Spider Limited Red has an RRP of £229 but comes in 35in only.

G Golf takes on Fiberbuilt mats
Smith. “From the ground up, Fiberbuilt mat systems are built to last. The grass is designed specifically for golf club contact. Durability testing shows each component can be hit over 300,000 times repetitively in the same spot before wear begins to show on the mat.” Fiberbuilt’s self-assembly system consists of a moulded rubber foundation base,
G
nylon stance mat and optional ball tray. Replacement parts are available but the foundation can last more than 10 years with
the primary hitting surface only needing to be replaced every two-five years. The secondary hitting surface, the turf stance mat, should be rotated regularly and replaced every one-three years. “Ultimate tee line systems are ideal for golf club practice areas and are available in 4in, 6in or 8in widths,” Smith added. “Performance turf allows you to put a tee anywhere and provides multiple hitting surfaces. This component-based system allows for replacement of worn parts over time at a fraction of the cost of the original installation.”
