Danfoss ASV automatic balancing valves are providing heating comfort and energy savings for tenants in London tower blocks. Danfoss’ simple and cost-effective solution optimises heating system per- formance by ensuring that risers are perfectly balanced under all system conditions and outside temperatures. The result is even heat distribution with no overflows or wasted energy and lower heating costs. ASV consists of two components: a differential pressure controller and partner valve mounted in the supply line. Installed on each floor, ASV valves, with Danfoss by-pass valves to the top of the riser provided the basis for achieving proper hydronic balance throughout the system. Once the risers had been balanced, fitting thermostatic radiator valves with a pre-set function ensured each radiator got the right amount of heated water to maintain the desired room temperature.

Viega
Viega, the global manufacturer of piping systems, has introduced Megapress G connectors to the UK market bringing the benefits of the Megapress technology to those working with gas installations. Megapress G ‘cold’ pressed connectors have been tested and Kitemark approved for natural gas and liquid gas applications as well as for heating oil, diesel fuels, compressed air containing oil and technical gases. The Megapress carbon steel press connection system offers a fast, ef- fective alternative to traditional methods such as welding. The system is a highly effective cold applied pressing method that helps to reduce installation time by around 60% by creating a secure connection without the need for an open flame. This eliminates burn risk and removes the requirement for a hot works permit or additional insurance.

Kingspan
Kingspan Kooltherm FM Duct Insulation and Kooltherm FM Pipe Insulation were chosen to insulate building services at the new Science & Technology Facilities Council RAL Space Develop- ment and Test facility (R100) in Didcot, a world-leading R&D facility at the Harwell Science Campus in Oxfordshire. Willmott Dixon worked on the high-spec design for the centre which includes a total of 1,200m2
of clean
rooms and test chambers. To ensure services performed as expected over 10,000lm of Kingspan Kooltherm FM Duct and Pipe Insulation were specified for the runs of service pipe and ductwork. The products’ fibre- free insulation cores allow them to deliver outstanding energy perform- ance with thermal conductivities as low as 0.022W/m.K and 0.025W/m.K respectively. Clean Room Construction oversaw work on the clean rooms while Briggs & Forrester carried out the connections.

Torin-Sifan
UK-based Torin-Sifan launched the Revolution 360 range, the next generation of centrifugal 3-core electronically commutated (EC) motorised impellers and fans, at ISH 2017 in Frankfurt in March. Comprising a comprehensive series of backward and forward-curved motorised impellers, plus single and double-inlet fans within scroll housings, the Revolution 360 range offers whisper quiet oper- ation and the lowest specific fan power (SFP) in its class, Torin-Sifan says. Featuring a sensorless PCB design with ultra-low static losses, a further re- duction in SFP is possible using innovative energy-saving mode options built into the electronic PCB design. The new range has been developed following intensive R&D at Torin-Sifan’s state-of-the-art EC Manufacturing and Technol- ogy Centre, based in Swindon, UK.

Aspen Pumps
Aspen Pumps has launched the MAX Hi-Flow tank pump. An evolution in tank pumps, the MAX Hi-Flow offers best in class performance and build quality, as well as being safe and quiet. Making specification simple, the MAX Hi-Flow replaces all Aspen Pumps’ existing tank pumps, the 0.5l, 1l and 2l Hi-Flow, allowing distributors to hold less stock and AC contractors to stock fewer pumps in their vans. Boasting a low profile of only 134mm high, 144mm wide, by 285mm long the MAX Hi-Flow makes installation in shallow ceiling voids simple and so is ideal for use in cassette air conditioning applications. The pump’s motor and impellor system have been configured to achieve the quietest operating noise level, 44d(A). Designed with AC contractors in mind the MAX Hi-Flow offers a raft of features to make installation safe and simple with no maintenance call outs.
