The University of the West of England has continued to demonstrate its commitment to sustainable building management by installing two Cool-phase Hybrid systems in its Estates Management Office.

Cool-phase has been shown to use up to 90% less energy than traditional A/C systems. In 2015, we estimated that the Cool-phase systems installed globally saved the equivalent of 272 double-decker buses of CO2

30 years of innovation in heating system water treatment With origins tracing back to 1988, nearly three decades of innovation and industry influence have

seen Sentinel evolve into the leading boiler manufacturer endorsed water treatment specialist that it is today.

The story of the company’s innovation is filled with firsts. For instance, the company was the first in the world to produce a multi-cyclone filter, and the first to develop a best practice system for lifetime protection of boiler and components, a system which soon became the industry- standard best-practice approach of clean, protect, maintain (CPM). CPM constitutes the core of the Sentinel System, a three-step programme of cleaning, protecting and maintaining heating systems to ensure lifetime protection against scale and corrosion, and ultimately deliver best- possible system performance and efficiency. Sentinel were also the pioneers of jetflushing, a process it first developed in 1998. Sentinel’s product offering has developed to address the needs of both domestic and commercial heating and hot water systems and is based on the delivery of best practice water treatment programmes. Correct and effective water treatment is paramount to ensure efficiency and system longevity. In fact, research shows that 99.5% of heat exchanger and pump components which fail during the boiler’s warranty period come from systems without quality water treatment, while around 87% of boiler call-outs are to systems without correct water treatment. Sentinel can provide products designed for conventional central heating and hot water systems, alongside others for renewable energy and potable water systems. The latest cleaners, inhibitors, noise reducers, leak sealers, condensate neutralisers, biocides, filters, dosing vessels and test kits are all available, along with plenty more besides.

Each product is purpose-designed to deliver optimised performance, and many are developed through close working relationships with major boiler and heating system manufacturers, in both the domestic and commercial heating sectors. These include Baxi, Danfoss, Glow Worm, Grundfos, Honeywell, Ideal, Mitsubishi Electric, Potterton, Stelrad and Worcester Bosch, to list but a few.

The company’s relationship with the OEMs of the heating industry extends beyond high quality products. Sentinel works with these organisations on sales, marketing, training and sector campaign initiatives to help all parties deliver the best services to heating engineers and, in turn, end users. The training that Sentinel’s technical support managers deliver for these manufacturers, whether at their own training facilities or on site, has been voted the best in industry. Indeed, Sentinel puts much of its success down to the company’s field-based customer support teams, which are sustained by dedicated staff at its headquarters in the northwest of England and at a growing number of international offices. And while Sentinel recognises that many of its potential customers are not yet aware of the major benefits provided by water treatment, the company continues to work closely with industry partners to lead growth in awareness and develop the sector’s best training and communication tools.
