CARRIER
Two high performance Carrier air-cooled chillers with a combined cooling capacity of 1.17MW have been installed at The Royal Exchange in the City of London as part of a major refurbishment of premium offi ce space in the iconic building. Installed by contractor JSA Service, the pair of AquaForce 30XAV- 600 chillers equipped with Greenspeed Intelligence inverter drives replaced the
previous chillers, made by another manufacturer, which had proven to be unreliable. Allan Wilkinson, managing director of JSA Service, said: “The client required a high effi ciency solution that would deliver top quality comfort conditions and operate with low noise. Reliability and resilience were key. The Carrier 30XAV chillers provided an excellent solution, off ering low noise, superior reliability and optimal effi ciency, especially at part load.”

ATAG
Nine XL140 and four XL70 boilers from ATAG Commercial have been installed at Bristol Grammar School in University Road, Bristol, as part of an extensive heating system refurbishment. The boilers were fi tted by Bristol-based Octagon Heating Services. Julian Hopkins, managing director at Octagon Heating Services, said: “We have worked with ATAG Commercial on dozens of projects since 2006, so are well aware of the quality and effi ciency of their boilers.
“The XL140s were chosen for this particular project due to the combination of their high effi ciency, reliability, fi ve-year warranty and prefabricated header system. Plus, all our engineers have been trained to commission, service and repair ATAG boilers, so they were the natural choice for this job.”

Service records show that more than 80% of initial service calls when a new boiler has been installed are as a result of poor water quality or lack of corrosion inhibitor in the system. To tackle this, Kamco has introduced HyperFlush, a non-acidic high performance cleaning chemical for cleaning heating systems with heavy corrosion and scale deposits. It may be used alone or with a power fl ushing pump. Modern condensing boilers often have aluminium heat exchangers; HyperFlush takes into account the reactivity of aluminium, while retaining high solvency power for corrosion, scale and sludge deposits. These are taken into suspension, without forming particulate matter which can cause more blockages in the small water passages of modern boilers. HyperFlush reacts with rust to create a water soluble iron complex, while unreactive magnetite is effi ciently removed by dispersion.
