Trust follows good quality and service

Fujitsu have been in the UK market for 32 years, where did it all begin?

Our air conditioning business began right back in 1960 with the launch of our first window air conditioner in Japan. In 1971 the business expanded into the Middle East and the brand quickly associated itself with quality by being able to perform in ambient temperatures over 50˚C. Through innovation and globalisation, we reached the UK in 1986 with a window unit and a wall mount range. The foundations were in place to continue and grow our product range, introducing our Airstage VRF systems to the UK back in 2001. In fact, our J Series mini VRF range is 15 years old this year.

To have a range continue for so long there must be quite a demand?

The J Series started life as a 15kW single fan heat pump system, and was born from the market wanting VRF inverter technology to bridge a gap in the capacity between what would have been our S-range modular VRF, starting at 22kW and our then multi split range up to 12kW. With a feature you don’t really see anymore, you could set its capacity between 12, 14 or 15kW by changing a switch on the circuit board. A twin fan variation followed, designed to improve efficiencies, but due to popular demand another single fan alternative accompanied it. People wanted the design potential of a small footprint unit. Now we are on the series’ third generation and it seems that with the market increasing for mini VRF application, its success will carry on for some time yet.

Are there any of the old versions still out there?

Yes, there are. We’ve pinned quite a few down, and through years of good maintenance and being looked after, they are still performing, for want of a

Ian Carroll, Fujitsu UK COO

Chief operating officer of Fujitsu General Air Conditioning UK Ian Carroll, describes the company’s journey to success in the UK through quality of product and customer service

better phrase, as good as the day they were put in. It’s great to see because both the end user and the companies that look after these long-standing sites will always link Fujitsu with a quality product.

So where is Fujitsu’s place in the HVAC market?

We have such a diverse range of air conditioning and ventilation products; we cover everything from a simple 2kW split system for both residential and small commercial all the way through to having 150kW capabilities within the specification market. We have comprehensive selections of both heat pump, heat recovery systems and DX application, and we’ve just complemented our range with the launch of our new chiller products via our partnership with GI Holding in Italy.

With an established UK presence, we pride ourselves on our reputation for both the quality of product and customer service, which we were recognised for within the industry. We’ve built this over the years, through stability within the business. I would say that our place in the market is as a reputable go to brand across the sector.

How do you stay fluid within an industry that is always bringing about change?

We are lucky to have such an extensive investment in research and development from a global point of view, within a forward thinking environmentally conscious organisation. This allows us to develop, suiting changes in EU legislation and the opportunity for us to put forward the UK local market requirements, as they are quite different to the rest of Europe. Within the UK we focus on our core values. We operate with honesty and integrity, we focus on training both our staff and our customers, we deal with situations to conclude matters in the quickest most effective way for our customers, and most importantly we listen to our market.
