HYGROMATIK
The Norwich Record Office collects and preserves archives relating to the history of Norfolk. It was using electrode units for its humidification requirements, but HygroMatik’s FlexLine units have now replaced the VAPAC cylinders. The FlexLine series is HygroMatik’s latest generation of steam humidifier. The units are available as electrode or heater element humidifiers,
depending on water quality and desired level of control. At Norwich Record Office, FlexLine heater element humidifiers were selected; the FLH 06 and 09 units, with a respective steam output of 5.5-6.5 kg/h and 8.2-9.8 kg/h replaced the 5 and 9 kg/h VAPAC units. The FlexLine units were also chosen because of their compact nature. This addressed the tight space issue at the premises as part of the unit had to fit inside an existing external housing.

ADVANCE APPLIANCES
Advance Appliances has launched Plug & Glow 2, an improved version of the original Plug & Glow small stainless steel boiler. The new version comes with bespoke software and is the same size as the original (120mm x 195mm).
It has 22 connections for ease of installation and can be programmed twice
a day with a five day/weekend option. Temperature is adjusted by a calibrated knob on the front of the case or it can be controlled by an off board thermostat.
With a 2.7kW output, the unit is fitted with a 13 amp plug and can be plugged into a household socket. Plug & Glow 2 is CE marked and comes with a two year guarantee.

A new Intensive Care Unit (ICU) opened in 2018 at Walsall Manor Hospital. Kingspan Kooltherm Pipe Insulation has been installed on the unit to assist with effective temperature management to safeguard patients’ wellbeing. The project has also targeted a BREEAM rating of ‘Very Good’. Samuel Hitch, managing director of Chase Insulations, said: “It was important for this project that there was minimal disruption
to the rest of the site, and that we got the unit operational as soon as possible. Having worked with Kingspan Industrial Insulation before, we knew that their insulation is easy to handle and lightweight, which enables a quicker installation. Using premium performance phenolic lagging also meant we could help keep the project costs comparatively lower than using other insulation materials.”

MIKROFILL
Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust provides mental health care to residents in Birmingham, Solihull and beyond. In the spring of 2018, work started on the John Black site to turn the present building from an inpatient to an outpatient facility. The existing cast iron atmospheric boilers were replaced with three Ethos 110kW wall mounted condensing boilers
as well as a Mikrovent 400 low loss header/air dirt separator. The stainless steel boilers were installed on free standing frames and provide comfortable space heating throughout the reconfigured wings. The building services design was carried out by Waterman Group and installed by Ward Services. In addition, the new LPHW system is unvented by way of a pre-commissioned Mikrofilll 400 pressurisation package.
