approach. And again, they are not simply looking for a piece of equipment for a monthly fee like in a traditional long-term hire - they are looking to buy the expertise along with it. Traditionally, if you hire a unit for a long term – it is not a bespoke solution for your business. It’s what is available in the hire fleet and you’ll be stuck with it for the duration of the contract. The change in the game is the opportunity to hire solutions that suit the customer’s concrete application, instead of hiring a unit that suits the hiring company. Customers also want the flexible, bespoke approach, so down the line if they decide to expand and invest into a new production line, or decrease operations, they can adapt the hire contract accordingly. Our customers want to focus on their businesses and are looking for the peace of mind from the asset point of view. They want the expenditure to always be predicable, and they don’t want to worry about the maintenance of the units.


Refrigerants The ideal refrigerant would be non-toxic, non- flammable, non-explosive, non-corrosive,


not harmful to the environment, cheap and easy to produce and work with and have good thermodynamic properties operating at low pressures. In reality, different refrigerants have varying degrees of these desired properties making choice a matter of trade off. Also, in real life it is still a low percentage of customers that are asking about the low-GWP refrigerants options. It’s the regulations, the chemical companies, and the OEMs rather than the end-customers that are driving the change. At ICS Cool Energy we have experience in designing products operating with low-GWP refrigerants. Our entire portfolio of screw compressor chillers is already available with low-GWP refrigerant alternatives such as R1234ze, R1233zd, and R513a.


Throughout the first half of 2021, smaller i-Chiller Compact scroll compressor units will be developed to use R513a. The majority of ICS Cool Energy packaged i-chillers and larger scroll units will move to using R454b as the lowest GWP value option to replace R410a whilst maximising high- efficiency operation.
