Dehumidifi ers: a profi table add-on

or any air conditioning and refrigeration contractor looking to expand its range of services and diff erentiate its off ering, dehumidifi cation represents a clear and


often overlooked opportunity. Closely aligned with existing skills in refrigerant-based cooling, airfl ow and environmental control, dehumidifi ers allow contractors to solve a wider range of client problems and unlock new revenue streams. Recently, there has been a signifi cant increase in media and public interest in the topic of combating damp and mould, following the introduction of Awaab’s Law in 2025. Damp and mould problems are now categorised as a Category 1 hazard, and landlords are required to fi x reported issues within strict timeframes. Although most domestic humidity issues can be resolved through rectifying structural problems and enhancing ventilation, there can be times when physical

removal of moisture is a cost-eff ective solution. When operating dehumidifi ers to lower humidity uses less energy than heating the air and ventilating, it can be a practical solution to residential humidity issues. But outside of the housing market, there are many higher-value opportunities for the ACR contractor off ering dehumidifi cation. Drying room installation is one such possibility. These are purpose-built areas in a building used to rapidly dry clothing and equipment. Many offi ces now incorporate a drying room, as staff are encouraged to walk to work. They are seen as an added benefi t for employees. Other buildings that frequently need dedicated drying rooms are fi re stations, to maintain kit readiness after training, construction sites, to improve worker comfort and safety, and any water sports facility, to protect equipment from mould damage.
