LG opens Derby heat pump training site
L
G Electronics has expanded its Air Conditioning and Energy Solutions Academy with a new training location in Derby, developed in partnership with the Heat Pump Central Training Academy. The site is intended to widen access to practical heat pump and HVAC training as the UK works to build the workforce needed to scale low-carbon heating. The Derby facility off ers hands-on training with LG heating systems and user interfaces, giving engineers the opportunity to work directly with equipment in a controlled environment. Heat Pump Central will also deliver nationally recognised BPEC heat pump qualifi cations, alongside its MCS Umbrella Scheme and fast-track support route to MCS accreditation. The expansion comes amid rising demand for heat pump installations and ongoing shortages of qualifi ed engineers. Sachin Vibhute, Technical Consultant and Product Training Manager at
LG, said the sector needs sustained attention on installer training, clearer consumer information and long-term policy certainty to maintain progress. “Heat pumps only deliver effi cient heating when systems are correctly
specifi ed and installed, which is why training is essential to ensure engineers have the skills needed to deliver reliable performance,” he said. LG’s UK investment forms part of its wider global programme focused on heat pump research and development, including consortium-led projects in Europe, North America and Asia examining effi ciency, reliability and performance in varied climates.
Eurovent publishes cPCR Guidance for commercial refrigeration E
urovent has released a new Recommendation providing complementary
Product Category Rules (cPCR) for commercial refrigeration equipment, now available in the Publications section of its website. The document establishes a harmonised framework for developing Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) and lifecycle assessments (LCAs) specifi c to commercial refrigeration technologies. It is intended to support manufacturers, consultants, and environmental specialists in applying consistent and transparent environmental reporting practices ahead of future formal standards. Commercial refrigeration equipment, including refrigerated
display cabinets, beverage coolers, ice cream freezers and related systems, underpins food retail, food service, and cold-chain operations across Europe and global markets. With sustainability and product transparency gaining regulatory momentum, Eurovent’s Recommendation off ers a practical set of methodological rules and assumptions to guide comparable assessments of environmental performance. Eurovent Deputy Secretary
General Stijn Renneboog noted the importance of alignment across the sector, stating: “Manufacturers and users of commercial refrigeration equipment need a harmonised approach to lifecycle assessment and environmental declarations.

This guidance defi nes consistent methodological rules for calculating and reporting lifecycle impacts for commercial refrigeration products, as part of Eurovent’s wider programme to harmonise environmental declarations across HVAC product categories.”
By reducing ambiguity in
LCA practices and promoting comparability of environmental data, the Recommendation aims to strengthen industry preparedness for potential future regulatory or standardisation requirements.
