We have the power
‘
There is about a 40% chance of the annual average global temperature temporarily reaching 1.5°C above the pre- industrial level in at least one of the next fi ve years – and these odds are increasing with time...’ says a recent report from the World Meteorological Organisation. This is up from 20% over the ten years.
The change in odds doesn’t mean that the world has warmed by that much already, but it is an indicator that we are set on a path of rising temperatures – that a sustained global average of 1.5°C above the pre-industrial level (the ideal top limit goal of the Paris Climate Agreement in 2016) is on the horizon and we should change our course.
It also means that air conditioning and refrigeration are becoming increasingly important across domestic as well as commercial and industrial markets which is great news for industry. But, as we all know, acr is a huge contributor to global warming even while it shields us from the eff ects. Looking after the environment is no longer about ‘greenwash’, greed or beauracracy and it’s incumbant upon industry as much as, or perhaps more than, anyone else to change the course of global warming.
