SBS sustainably expanding W

ith history dating back to 1897, Smith Brothers is one of the largest and oldest independent merchants operating in the UK directly focusing on supplying to the commercial and industrial mechanical services sector. After nearly 125 years of trading, the business remains family owned, with the 5th generation present within a 350+ strong workforce.

The business operates in England, Wales

and now Scotland with the addition of SBS Glasgow in September 2020. This along with the introduction of a team to support Northern Ireland based customers working within the UK, means Smith Brothers now supports the HVAC industry across the whole of the United Kingdom through a fourteen-branch network excluding a head offi ce based in Blaby, Leicester. Our vision since the company was founded was

to off er value through service. Making sure our customers never fall short on their commitments, which will hopefully lead to them having a long and successful trading history like ours.

Today sees Smith Brothers stockholding in excess of £20 million with the heavy investment primarily aimed at reducing delivery lead times and plateau signifi cant price increases for our customers. Excellent branch stock levels are encouraged so reliance is not placed on drawing stock from the rest of the group, meaning our suppliers work with every Smith Brothers branch. The business signifi cantly increased its stockholding at the start of 2020 due to the uncertainly gathering around Brexit and the then emerging Covid-19 pandemic. These increased stock levels are still being maintained today. Smith Brothers is a key wholesaler of Daikin air conditioning units which are stocked in great numbers both locally and at our distribution centre. Regarded by many as a leader in the air conditioning fi eld, Daikin’s extensive product portfolio is renowned for its effi ciency and reliability, having been designed to suit all HVAC applications. We feel it is essential the business has the knowledge and capability to support consumers

on our Daikin range to help facilitate projects pre and post installation. That is why our customers have access to our own Daikin product managers, who can off er essential technical support and assist with both system design and layout. To compliment the Daikin product range, Smith Brothers stocks a wide range of air conditioning and refrigeration ancillaries from leading brands such as Armacell, Advanced Engineering, Aspen, Lawton, Javac and Gel-clear. Each branch has an internal and external air conditioning specialist on hand to off er advice and support, ultimately ensuring our customers have access to a complete air conditioning package.

Smith Brothers believes its staff are paramount to the business’s continued growth and success, which is why we strive to provide a positive working environment for all employees. Staff contribution and achievements are often celebrated through internal awards, with additional training and career progression opportunities regularly available. General staff
