FEATURE DISTRIBUTION

PROVIDING DESIGN, PROCUREMENT AND LOGISTICS SERVICES TO HI-REL SECTORS

Astute Electronics is unlike other supply chain partners. The company – trusted by leading companies in the defence and hi-rel markets - is multi-faceted as required by its customer base. Here’s more on how?

elivering customers the best quality, service and reliability is top of the agenda for any supplier or distributor. But often the key to differentiation is market knowledge and being able to respond to customer requirements quickly and accurately. This is where Astute takes the lead. The company is both an electronic components distributor and a global and UK parts supplier that specialises in supplying hard-to-find and obsolete components. One example of how the company differentiates itself in the market place is that it has a £1M test lab, which it uses to determine the authenticity of any components it sources that do not have full manufacturer’s tracing documentation and once tested, the company offers a 10 year warranty on these components.

COUNTERFEIT MITIGATION Astute has gained certification to AS 6081, the SAE aerospace standard that addresses counterfeit mitigation and is designed to provide a very high level of protection for companies in the aerospace and defence industries. The distributor was the first British and first European company to gain certification and only the fourth company in the world to achieve this, as well as being the first company worldwide to have both its UK and USA locations certified. The company has also achieved Silver Status in the prestigious SC21 program.

with key customers. Its kitting and total solution division, Astute 3PL, caters for the ever increasing need to outsource component supply chains, managing the supply chain and delivering into global manufacturing locations. To support design activity, the company also offers a fully franchised distribution service. This covers semiconductors, displays, electromechanical and most recently, memory products. Each of these technology areas are handled by an experienced, dedicated team including FAEs. Products from three suppliers illustrate the innovative nature of the company’s franchise portfolio: MicroOled’s 5.4 million dot MDP02 full-colour

1.56cm micro display targets head-mounted displays, thermal and digital night vision devices, and electronic viewfinders requiring excellent colour reproduction. The displays use MicroOled’s proprietary low voltage technology and unique pixel design that comprises four sub-pixels and a large pixel aperture with no black matrix to

standard connectors in seconds without the need for any special tooling or soldering, forming an effective EMI filter and an environmental seal. Since EESeals do not use a PCB or brittle planar ceramic array construction, they do not need any modification of the connector body shell. EESeals are usually lighter than PCBs or arrays and are often 20-40% less expensive. Custom samples can be shipped in as little as 24 hours. Innodisk is a manufacturer of industrial

embedded flash and DRAM storage products and technologies. The company focuses on industries such as enterprise, industrial, aerospace and defence where quality is vitally important – a perfect match for Astute’s customer base. Product design features include fixed-BOM

control to ensure product quality, longevity and stability, and the use of industrial-grade components means that products can withstand temperatures ranging from -40 to 85°C. Sample parts are available very quickly and typical production lead times are only two weeks. Yet the company is also able to customise devices to suit specific applications. With over 50 patents, Innodisk is a technical

provide ultra-high contrast and excellent image quality and sharpness. The cutting-edge RGBW sub-pixel structure enables the reproduction of colours and shades in greater detail, from shadow to highlights. Brightness is up to 400cd/m2. The additional white sub pixel makes the display brighter and more power efficient. Quell’s patented EESeal+ technology uses EMC filter components embedded into a silicone rubber insert that matches the size, shape and pin configuration of the connector to be filtered. Transient suppressors can also be included. Users specify which filter elements are required for each pin, allowing for the creation of a completely custom filter insert with widely varying capacitor values, shorts and opens as desired. The inserts are easily and quickly inserted into

innovator, pioneering Pin 7 VCC technology in the SATA interface which eliminates the need for power cables. This led to the development of the SATADOM form factor which is certified by Intel and widely adopted by industrial and embedded system designers worldwide.
