Ethernet interface then INMOCO is offering DRIVE- CLiQ versions of the Kollmorgen AKM series. DRIVE-CLiQ is a special


Ethernet-based interface for the Sinumerik control produced by Siemens. Originally only available on Siemens motors, a DRIVE- CLiQ sensor module was developed so that it could also be used with those from other manufacturers – but this needed to be individually installed. Now, however, by reading the field-specified commutation offset, the control system can automatically recognise the Kollmorgen motors. Inmoco uses single- and multi- turn 24 bit resolution feedback devices in DRIVE-CLiQ systems for high accuracy position resolution. This also creates the valuable safety feature of a single-encoder system that can be used for both monitoring and closed-loop functions. The AKM motor series is available in eight standard frame sizes and 28 frame-stack lengths, with Inmoco offering the Drive Cliq option on sizes 4,5,6,7. These can be used directly for CNC applications with Siemens’ Sinumerik control in machine tools and other metal processing applications.


MEETING DEMANDS Heason, meanwhile, is offering the AKD and AKD-BASIC servo drives from Kollmorgen. The advanced AKD-series Ethernet-based servo drives now cover continuous output power up to 32kW in a range of single and three-phase models – offering a flexible and expandable large-scale automation system for high precision and high throughput multi-axis motion and machine control, the company explains. Similar high power performance is available with the Kollmorgen AKD- BASIC, which offers integrated machine and motion control for one to five axes. With BASIC programming and all the control functions located within the


drive, there is no need for a separate PLC for many applications, the company explains. Both drives, which are said to be easy


to set up, feature high-bandwidth torque, velocity loops and fast digital current loop. The AKD supports a wide choice of Ethernet protocols including EtherCAT, EtherNet/IP and PROFINET as well as TCP/IP Ethernet service channel for fast data acquisition. CANopen interfacing is also available and there is a large selection of option cards for I/O expansion, memory


storage and processing power. The AKD-BASIC programmable servo


INMOCO is offering DRIVE-CLiQ versions of the Kollmorgen AKM series


drive has been designed to provide motion on each axis without the need for an external PLC or motion control system. The intelligent drive supports advanced motion through CAMs, electronic gearboxes, complex motion profiles with S-curves plus conditional statements, maths functions etc., and an expanded I/O version is available for applications that require increased machine control functions. The higher power versions of the AKD and AKD-BASIC expand the potential for larger customised motion systems offered by Heason Technology, in particular for demanding applications in packaging & converting, food &


beverage processing, material forming and high-specification automation systems across industry and research.

APPLICATION SOLUTIONS Advanced Motion Controls, meanwhile, has added POWERLINK-enabled servo drives to its portfolio.The compact DVP series from the company’s DigiFlex Performance (DP) family of digital servo drives is designed to control brushed, brushless and AC induction servo motors. According to the company, POWERLINK


complements the usual CANopen interface on the drive and enables it for complex high-performance motion control. It offers the full range of CAN features and adds real-time capabilities as well as sufficient bandwidth for video, remote HMI, real-time processing and safety. The range is aimed at mobile


applications – such as construction, municipal or agricultural vehicles. Covering a wide continuous power range up to 12.5kW peak for 20 - 54 VDC supplies, the drives are offered in a vehicle-mount, IP65-rated housing. Of additional benefit, the drives can be configured to operate multiple electric motor types, including: BLDC and PMAC servo, closed-loop AC induction, closed- loop 3- stepper, PM brushed, voice coils and inductive loads. Incorporating 5V incremental encoders for feedback, DP servo drives can be configured to support various operating modes, allowing them to be used to control torque, speed or position in a variety of automated mobility applications. Also available is the MINAS A6 series of servo drives from Panasonic. This, the company explains, follows on from the A5 series, but is more compact. With its split core structure and a new housing the company has reduced the length by 30% and the weight by up to 10%. The encoder design has also been made more compact. Additional features of the new drives


include an open serial communication protocol – RS232 or RS485 – and an even faster velocity response (3.2kHz). The 20-bit MINAS A5 encoder (1048576


pulses per revolution = ppr) has been upgraded to 23 bit (8388608 ppr). The A6 series also uses the same cables and connectors as the A5.
