PRODUCTS FASTENINGS & ADHESIVES CLEAR ADHESIVE OFFERS A STRONG BOND

A water white clear general adhesive which ensures a strong structural bond has been introduced by Intertronics. A two-part epoxy, Opti-tec 5013 is suitable for bonding glass, ceramics, plastics and metals as well as some optical and opto-electronic applications. It can also be used for small volume potting and encapsulation. The adhesive’s medium viscosity provides good gap

filling characteristics, while its high surface energy enables wetting and wicking between surfaces – before and during the cure cycle. At room temperature, handling strength is achieved in 30 minutes, with full cure time

taking just two hours, although this can be accelerated to ten minutes at 65˚C. Intertronics

PRECISELY MIXING GLUE

With the ability to bond almost any combination of substrates and the high temperature and chemical resistance properties of an epoxy, LOCTITE 4090 is a two-part hybrid adhesive with the speed of cyanoacrylate or superglue. However, a precise and repeatable

mixing ratio is critical, which is where the new MM25 Volumetric Dual Rotor Pump can help. This, the company explains, allows manufacturers to take full advantage of the new adhesives in semi- or fully automated production. This dispenser uses positive

displacement technology to ensure consistent dosing. It is based on two eccentric rotor pumps, the main components of which are a stainless steel rotor that rotates within a

When assembling interior trim components it is essential that the high quality of the ‘A’ surface is maintained. Ultrasonic welding offers precise and repeatable control of joining processes, which is why it was selected to produce complete car sets of interior window control housing bezels for the Jaguar XE. Each bezel comprises a chrome surround and a painted facia which has the apertures for the window switches. These two individual parts are joined with six

(passenger side) or nine (drivers master unit) staking tabs depending upon variant. Telsonic’s solution is based upon dual USP2000 20kHz 3kW presses, each of which uses titanium multi-tip tooling. Component loading/unloading and machine operation are kept simple with the use of a pull down door with a safety interlock which initiates the welding cycle. In addition, parking sensors are becoming standard fitment

to many vehicles, and Telsonic ultrasonic systems have been selected to assemble the PDC holder bezels to the front grille vents for the Range Rover Evoque 2016 model.

self-sealing elastomeric stator. The elastomer has a high chemical resistance. As it dispenses the adhesive volumetrically and virtually free from pulsation, it gives far greater control over the amount of adhesive released; and offers an accuracy of ±1%. The new MM25 is suitable for

handling low and high viscosity materials with ratios of 1:1 to 10:1. The pumps can be fed directly from the MM30 400ml Dual Cartridge Applicator.

26 MAY 2016 | DESIGN SOLUTIONS

A new range of dual-curing adhesives that reach full strength at 60˚C and can be prefixed after only half a second of exposure to light, have been introduced by DELO. Prefixing is a benefit for production lines as, after

dispensing and fixation, the component will be directly transferred to the next step of the process chain. This guarantees reproducibility and fast production. Products in the DUALBOND family also feature excellent

adhesion to LCP and allow adjustment of the adhesive properties ranging from flexible to hard, the company explains. The low curing temperature of these new adhesives reduces the thermal stress between the materials, limiting the stress on the component. Furthermore, they allow processing of temperature-sensitive substrates without difficulty as higher temperatures would only damage the sensitive components.

TRANSPARENT ADHESIVE FOR BONDING PLASTICS

Now available from Techsil is Vitralit UV 4050 MV, a transparent UV and visible light curing adhesive which features medium viscosity and is well suited for bonding plastics. It is, the company explains, particularly suitable for medtech applications and medical device assembly. With 450 to 650mPas, this transparent adhesive is of medium viscosity and, when cured, it shows good flexibility and stability. It also offers shrinkage of only 2%, and offers excellent adhesion to most plastics – including PVC, ABS, SAN and PC – as well as to stainless steel and glass. If at least one assembly material is transparent, Vitralit UV 4050 MV will cure very quickly to produce a strong and reliable bond. UV blocked materials like polycarbonate can be cured thanks to the adhesive’s ability to cure with visible light (>400nm).

The adhesive cures in seconds with UV-A and visible light. Both gas discharge lamps and LEDs can be used for curing.
