VACUUM PUMP RANGE EXTENDED /h.

New to Atlas Copco’s GHS VSD+ family of vacuum pumps is the GHS 1300-1900 VSD+, which offers power of up to 1900m3

With its variable speed drive

technology, the range is said by the company to deliver energy savings of up to 50% compared with conventional fixed-speed vacuum pumps. In addition it offers plug-and-play simplicity, advanced control features and lower noise levels. Measuring less than 2.3m3

the new introduction is an oil-sealed rotary screw vacuum pump with a range of 1300 to 1900m3

/h and an ultimate

pressure of 0.35mbar(a). This has a detailed front panel display, and SmartLink connectivity is

available as an option, providing users with greater insight and control into the machine’s operational performance. It also features Atlas Copco’s Elektronikon for state-of-the-art monitoring, enabling full control to enhance energy savings. Optional water cooled versions are available, with an integrated energy recovery

system that could recover up to 100% of the used energy as hot water (90˚C), which can be used for process requirements to save on excess fuel usage. In addition, the pump is also available as a turbo version if fast evacuation times are needed. The GHS 1300–1900 VSD+ is suitable for centralised vacuum systems, glass

bottle manufacture and canning, as well as many other applications. Atlas Copco

VALVE RANGE CERTIFIED FOR FOOD CONTACT APPLICATIONS

The robust stainless steel angle valve range from ASCO is now suitable for food contact applications. The range is fully certified to meet the requirements of

the European (EC) 1935-2004 and the USA Food and Drug Administration (FDA) CFR21 food contact regulations. As such, the DN10 to DN65 valves can be used to control auxiliary fluids on food processes where the flowing media may come into contact with the food. In addition, the valves also comply with the (EC) 10/2011 standards for plastics material intended to come into contact with food, and are manufactured in accordance with the (EC) 2023/2006 standard for good manufacturing practice. Similar to many ASCO products the valves also comply with the RoHS 2 (EU) 2011/65 standard which restricts the use of hazardous materials. The pneumatically operated valves

offer high flow and performance capabilities thanks to the angle seat design and are available with a range of options. Easy to size, select and install, they are available for on/off applications as well as where proportional control is required.

SIMPLE AND COMPACT PNEUMATIC QUARTER TURN ACTUATOR INTRODUCED

A modern quarter turn actuator – the DFPD – has been launched by Festo. The updated design, which is offered with price reductions of up to 20% compared to previous models, is said to be simple, compact and modular. With a torque range from 10 to

480Nm, a rotation angle of up to 180˚ and corrosion-resistant versions, the versatile and modular single or double-acting DFPD performs well across a broad range of applications and industries. Its compact rack-and-pinion combination is easy to install, even when space is at a premium. Both the end stop positions can be adjusted by ±5˚ for increased flexibility during commissioning. The direction of rotation can be selected and the rotation angle for standard sizes is up to 90˚, rising to 180° for the 40, 120, 240 and 480 sizes. According to the company, thanks to its

spring cartridge design, the single acting DFPD’s pressure range can be easily optimised for the task in hand. Nine different spring combinations allow pressures from two to six bar to be efficiently configured in increments of 0.5 bar to meet the most precise operating pressure requirements. The standard version is suitable for temperatures between -20 and +80°C, with variants also available to operate

reliably at either low or high extreme temperatures, ranging from -50 to +150˚C. In addition, with optional corrosion-resistant surface coatings, the DFPD can also be reliably used in harsh conditions. The new actuator is suitable

for many tasks including automating butterfly or ball valves and air dampers in the chemical, beverage and pharmaceutical industries, as

well as in water treatment. It can be used as an individual actuator or combined with other components, such as sensor boxes, positioners and pilot valves, as part of a complete, integrated single manufacturer automated process valve system. The DFPD fits into the existing range alongside pilot solenoid valves, analogue positional controllers, switch boxes, and ball and butterfly valves, giving customers matched

components that are easy to configure, purchase and assemble.

CONFIGURE CYLINDERS ONLINE WITH NEW TOOL

IMI Precision Engineering has launched an online configuration service which supports over 60 native CAD formats. Partnering with Cadenas, this allows design engineers to instantly configure pneumatic cylinders, view price and availability, and download a CAD file of the completed configuration in their chosen native format. Engineers can choose to customise a wide range of product features, including: cushioning; cylinder diameter; stroke length; piston type; seals; and mounts. Image preview is available at every step. Jez Ashton, global online marketing

manager at IMI Precision Engineering, commented: “Cadenas data revealed that 73% of design engineers only source from suppliers that provide CAD downloads, but we wanted to go above and beyond this. By offering immediate pricing and delivery as well as a preview of the configured part at every stage of the configuration process, we are aiming to give engineers and the information and tools they need.”
