new Silent Iconic design panel delivers a stylish yet unobtrusive design. The four louvres are black to reduce the visual impact and the central inlet is louvred to blend with architectural ceiling styles. Speaking about the new Silent Iconic

product, Gordon Sutton, Hitachi Cooling & Heating Managing Director, UK & Ireland said, “The launch of this unique and innovative solution bridges the gap between the existing duct type and the conventional 4way cassette, breaking the commercial rules where air conditioning units are selected either for their performance, functionality and price or their

visual appearance in the space. We expect this unit to be universally popular – with architects and specifiers, contractors and installers, and our endusers.” Contact the Hitachi Direct Sales team on 020 3901 0913 to find out more.

cultural artefacts, music, song and dance is being set through a continuous linear approach from GIlberts Blackpool. Manchester Museum, part of The University of Manchester, is currently working towards a £13.5m capital transformation 'hello future', which is optimising existing space between the venue’s existing Grade II and II* listed buildings with a twostorey steel frame extension. The ground floor of the new building almost trebles the Museum’s special (temporary) exhibitions gallery space, and also features improved visitor facilities including a popup coffee shop, circulation space and an indoor picnic area. To ensure the correct atmosphere for both exhibits and visitors, M&E contractor A + B Engineering has chosen Gilberts to provide the solutions. Gilberts’ MBD diffusers up to 21m long run the length of the main

exhibition space, strategically located between acoustic rafters in the ceiling grid to provide twoway supply of fresh air without draughts across the floor space. In the new toilets, Gilberts’ SX200 andGX100 air valves respectively provide supply and extract. All have been powder coated in house to RAL9010.

Zumtobel and Thorn

provide 'a light at the end of the tunnel' for St. Patrick’s Special School

County Wexford, Zumtobel Group brands Zumtobel and Thorn have supplied a number of luminaires throughout the €14 million project. In conjunction with building engineers Semple and McKillop Ltd, the project involved the supply of custom made linear SLOTLIGHT infinity light lines that had to be the exact size of the radiant panels and be able to incorporate 3rd party lighting control sensors. The lighting installation was carried out by electrical contractor, Ronan Burke Electrical Ltd. Designed for students with special educational needs, the 5,940m2 building, mainly singlestorey and part threestorey, consists of 20 classrooms with ensuite toilets, junior and senior dining areas, a generalpurpose hall, specialist teaching rooms, and clinician facilities. The school provides a much needed, high quality facility for 400 students from Enniscorthy and the surrounding areas. In addition, the building incorporates a hydrotherapy pool with an extensive range of support facilities onsite, including a fully equipped speech and language suite, horticulture room, ICT suite, home economics room, and physio services.

ELCO Heating Solutions launches new heat pump focussed CPD module

L

eading manufacturer of commercial heating products, ELCO Heating Solutions, has introduced a new CIBSE

approved CPD module, adding to its highly popular learning programme. The new CPD introduces heat pump

technology and focusses on how to effectively apply it to commercial projects. The module has been carefully designed to allow building services engineers to review the use of high efficiency heat pumps and maximise their potential, while it also addresses key considerations for the design stage of a project. By reviewing the basic principles

governing the vapour compression cycle and its inherent limitations, the CPD outlines how best to apply heat pump technology to a system. The presentation also discusses the advantages and disadvantages of commonly used refrigerants, while evaluating example schematics for new and existing commercial heating systems, with and without domestic hot water preparation. Commenting on the new CPD, Mark

Ferris, UK Specification Manager, said: “Due

to climate change and essential government directives, the reasons to utilise heat pump technology in commercial applications have become more compelling than ever. As an established manufacturer of heating technology, ELCO is able to highlight the inherent benefits of this renewable technology, as well as reflect on how to utilise it alongside modern condensing boilers, if required. “Of course, as with any commercial

project, performance on paper is not always reflected in a practical setting, so careful system design and commissioning are essential – and this CPD module is designed to assist engineers in delivering the best possible heat pumpled system for their clients.” The 60minute module can be accessed

through a webbased booking system at www.elco.co.uk/cpd. Alternatively, it can be presented locally at an engineer’s practice. Interested parties should email enquiries@elco.co.uk for more information.

office building, which has been designed by AHR to meet the international WELL Building Standard, will become the new northern home of the Royal College of Physicians (RCP). The Spine is the gateway to KQ Liverpool’s Paddington Village site, a vibrant new health, technology and science community developed by Liverpool City Council that has brought together many influential organisations and revitalised this corner of the city centre. Moving into The Spine marks the start of an exciting new chapter in the RCP’s 500year history by establishing two beacons of excellence for the first time, one in London and one in Liverpool. This presents the RCP with exceptional opportunities to strengthen its standing as a worldclass learning and assessment centre and to lead the improvement of patient care throughout the country. With the goal of achieving the prestigious WELL Building Standard in mind, the concept and design of the air distribution system for the new building needed to meet the highest possible specification. Working with consulting engineers BDP throughout RIBA Design Stages 2 & 3, Waterloo’s North West Technical Sales Manager Tony Sherlock successfully helped to establish optimum air distribution solutions that were commensurate with this challenging architectural design.

useful features to help specifiers find the right solutions for their projects. Logical and intuitive the FSP is split into three simple sections: Fan Selection, Volume Calculator, and Trade Price Quote. Within these sections the Fan Selection Program uses input project details to compile all the necessary data to make ventilation selection, for example, on the Fan Selection page, project specification requirements are entered from volume and pressure, to tolerances and specific fan powers. regulations stipulate that cable support systems must be constructed with materials that will withstand premature collapse caused by direct exposure to heat. There are no applications excluded – trunking, conduit and cabling fixed to surfaces of the building or attached to cable support systems must all have fireresistant supports in place. These new additions provide

installers with an expanded choice of fixing solutions, suitable across a range of applications and environments – helping them to satisfy the latest wiring regulations.
