Getting to know VRV 5

The world of light commercial and residential air conditioning technology is ever changing, with new solutions that offer flexible, effective performance constantly coming to the fore. As such, it’s important that those in the sector do their best to stay upto date on these trends and are able to identify standout solutions that can make a difference. A great example is the innovative VRV 5 system, supplied by total climate solutions specialist, Daikin.

A new chapter

Marking a new chapter in light commercial and residential air-conditioning applications, Daikin’s VRV 5 system can help to reduce CO2 emissions across installations, whilst still providing compliant and effective performance. The highly flexible solution is ideal for covering all types of application. As such, it offers consultants and installers in the sector a versatile and reliable way to ensure effective performance. What’s more, the technology has been specifically engineered in light of new legal requirements under IEC60335-2-40 (Ed.6). The regulations make air-conditioning system selection more challenging and force building services professionals to consider possible leakage issues, refrigerant concentration, as well as room size regulations in their decision-making process. This system is able to uphold all regulations and deliver full compliance.

Working with Shîrudo technology

Another major benefit of the VRV 5 system is its use of Shîrudo Technology. Encompassing a complete package of advanced developments - all standard, integrated and configured, the innovative system can accommodate rooms as small as 10m². Likewise, with the system in place, there’s no need to install additional equipment in the field.

In practice, Shîrudo Technology offers enhanced protection in the unlikely event of a refrigerant leak. Should this occur, the leak detection sensor activates a local audible and visual alarm integrated into the system’s Madoka controller. For added versatility, the Makoda controller can be set to alarm only, via a field setting. Similarly, users can easily integrate a supervisor alarm onto the Makoda controller, or use a third party alarm activated by the output of either the outdoor unit, the indoor unit or the Intelligent Touch Manager system.

Furthermore, the system ensures that refrigerant control measures are activated to recover the refrigerant in the outdoor unit. Once the recovered refrigerant is stored in the accumulator the shut-off valves close and the

refrigerant is safely contained. As a result, Shîrudo Technology can deliver fully flexible performance straight out of the box. Finally, the powerful technology is CB tested and fully compliant to IEC60335-2- 40 (Ed.6). As such, the solution can be considered ‘future- proofed’ and relied on to serve buildings for many years to come.

Exceptional sustainability

Unlike some other solutions, the VRV 5 system has been developed specifically to use the R-32 refrigerant. The next generation refrigerant carries heat more efficiently than alternative sources and has a lower environmental impact. When tested, the Global Warming Potential (GWP) of the R-32 refrigerant is 71% lower on a system level than alternative sources. What’s more, the system uses a single component refrigerant, which is easy to re-use and recycle.

Better still, the system provides real-life seasonal efficiency and is able to deliver exceptional sustainability over its entire lifecycle. The combination of these benefits allows customers to boost environmental performance in areas where it’s installed. In fact, this effectiveness has been third-party certified through a Notified Body (SGS CECEC). For building service professionals, the solution offers a quick and easy way to work towards key climate objectives.

Creating a better environment

By specifying the VRV 5 system, building service professionals can take a significant step towards improving the environmental performance of the buildings they work in. In turn, this enhanced performance can contribute to the creation of a better environment for all. As environment- related targets become more commonplace, solutions like the VRV 5 system can offer a powerful tool in helping to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. Offering best-in-class design versatility, industry-leading serviceability and exceptional comfort levels, the system is a stand out solution in the field of light commercial and residential air-conditioning technology.
