BSEE Advertorial

Cable cleats designed, developed and manufactured in North Yorkshire by Ellis Patents have been installed in a major power transmission project in Rio de Janeiro.

The 2F+ flame retardant polymeric cleats were specified through Ellis’ Brazilian distributor, Poleoduto and were used to secure power cables to 30metre high transmission towers in the suburb of Itamarati. Kelly Brown, Ellis Patents head of sales, said: “Everybody’s world has shrunk significantly during the last 15-months of social distancing, lockdowns and working from home orders, but that hasn’t been the case for Ellis. Our global export programme has continued to thrive; with a number of major new specifications secured and orders fulfilled in various countries around the world.”

Other recent international specifications include Ellis’ Emperor cable cleats being installed in the industrial headquarters of one of the world’s largest

The 2F+ cable clamps being used in Rio are manufactured as standard in black polypropylene or black flame retardant V0, Zero Halogen, Phosphorous Free Nylon (LSF), and are available in one and two- hole versions. They can be used in a wide variety of locations, both internally and externally, and are ideal for tough environments.

ELCO Heating Solutions (ELCO) has supplied four TRIGON® XXL EVO gas condensing boilers to The Wirral’s flagship Arrowe Park Hospital, as part of an important system upgrade.

In order to fulfil the hospital’s heating and hot water requirements, two TRIGON® XXL EVO900 and two EVO1100 were specified from ELCO’s floor standing commercial boiler range. The industry leading boilers deliver unrivalled power and performance thanks to a unique heat exchanger geometry and a water- cooled cold flame burner, which limit NOx emissions to 20mg/kWh, while offering gross seasonal efficiencies of up to 96%. A major benefit of the TRIGON® XXL boiler is its low water content design, which allows it to respond rapidly to the hospital’s heating and hot water demands. It is also incredibly lightweight and compact, ensuring it could be easily accommodated within the dimensions of the existing plant room.

The TRIGON® XXL is available in ‘ECO’ and ‘EVO’ variants, which combine to offer 19 different models overall. ‘ECO’ models offer excellent efficiencies and reduced energy consumption, and are available in outputs from 650kW to 1600kW. ‘EVO’ models offer the ‘best of both’, thanks to high power outputs and excellent efficiencies, with the range also including the industry’s first 2MW premix boiler, which features five heat exchanger sections to bolster power and performance, while keeping energy consumption and emissions to a strict minimum.

Situated just a stone’s throw from the historic Canterbury Cathedral, the Daphne Oram Creative Arts Building looks to showcase the best of modern construction with an attractive, highly energy efficient design utilising Kingspan Therma Duct Insulation.

38 BUILDING SERVICES & ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEER SEPTEMBER 2021

Canterbury Christ Church University’s new Daphne Oram Creative Arts Building sits on the outskirts of a World Heritage Site.

Nicholas Hare Architects and principal building contractor – Coombs – worked to develop a sensitive design which is separated over three volumes and uses brick and reconstituted stone to respond sensitively to the surrounding context. The building features a range of rehearsal, exhibition and performance spaces includes glass floor sections that display elements of the original St Augustine’s Abbey precinct wall, which sits beneath. Delivering excellent energy performance was also a priority, with the building designed to achieve

BREEAM ‘Very Good’. Project M&E consultants, Max Fordham LLP, carefully developed the building services specification to minimise plant energy use. As part of this approach, Kingspan Therma Duct Insulation was specified as part of the mechanical ventilation system servicing specialist music rehearsal spaces on the ground floor. Kingspan Therma Duct Insulation offers a simple insulation solution for lagging rectangular, circular or flat oval ductwork. The boards provide excellent insulating performance with a thermal conductivity of 0.023 W/mK, limiting heat transfer to and from the ductwork.
