the development of the world’s first non‐ destructive testing (NDT) regime for HDPE products, which now allows the manufacturer to issue a “Fit for Service” certificate on both Electrofusion and butt welds. Contractors already benefited from the inclusion of a ‘completion indicator’ on individual couplings such as Tee or Crosses, but the new service now offers complete peace of mind for the whole project team regarding the quality of the finished installation. This very significant stride forward means that

clients in the water, gas distribution, food processing and other industries requiring the highest standards cam now specify systems such eco‐FIT, ELGEF Plus and PROGEF with the same confidence as metal pipework alternatives. Meanwhile customers can continue to benefit

from these well engineered systems’ speed of installation, versatility, low weight, durability and other key attributes. Crucially GF Pipe System’s new ultrasonic based, non‐invasive testing will see the company’s internationally recognised partner provide a responsive on‐site service which can check up to 20‐30 separate welds per day. The NDT service is backed by a 10year guarantee.

anasonic’s advanced heating and cooling technology has been installed in the new IKEA store in Birmingham city centre.

Distributor Logicool provided the Panasonic ECOi and ECO G systems to IKEA and worked with Wolverhampton‐based TSG Electrical Services to ensure an efficient, cost effective installation. The city centre site did not have sufficient

electrical supply to deliver heating and cooling via an electric VRF system, so Panasonic’s ECO G technology was crucial to the success of the project. Logicool supplied two of Panasonic’s gas fired

test when something goes wrong. For example, if there were a fire in the building we would expect the materials to perform and resist the fire, and would think everything possible has been done to ensure only the best materials were in place. However, this is not always the case, so choosing a trusted, knowledgeable supplier is vital when installing cable into any environment.

Prysmian supplies LSOH cable of the

highest quality and standard that is able to cope with all the elements of an internal building scenario. Regulations recommends the use of RCD for sockets as well as for inside consumer units, but, despite this recommendation – there are still approximately 13 million homes in the UK that have no RCD protection at all. Approximately 10% of all fires are caused by electrical faults, many of which could be prevented by using RCDs.

variants, Passive or Active, and can be used for different applications. Many people are unaware of the differences between these two products and do not understand where best to use a10mA powerbreaker. For Passive RCDs a typical

application would be a refrigerator or freezer that would return to their regular mode of operation as soon as the power supply resumes normal operation. Available in all good wholesalers.

The luminaire can be surface, wall mounted, or suspended using a 3 point 1.5‐metre suspension kit; an attractive “heavenly” pendant. The Celeste offers up to 50,000 hours working life with no maintenance or re‐lamping requirements, which benefits the environment in terms of energy efficiency and lamp disposal. Available in 12, 21 and 30W options (Lumen

Celeste is also available with an integral microwave sensor which further reduces energy consumption. With the corridor function selected, the sensor adjusts the light level to 10% of the normal level when the space is unoccupied.

OpenAir – damper actuators for every application

T

he OpenAir range from Siemens Building Technologies represents a

comprehensive portfolio of energy efficient, reliable and flexible damper actuators tailored to suit individual user requirements. Boasting rapid installation and

extra‐long service life, the established range of damper actuators offer torque ratings from 2Nm to 35Nm, combining high positioning forces with low consumption motors. An effective building automation

system requires fast and accurate response times in order to guarantee a comfortable environment. The high performance OpenAir range can be relied upon to deliver time and again – proving a robust and cost effective long‐term solution. HVAC installations are often far

from straightforward, presenting challenges based on location and environmental surroundings. The extensive OpenAir range guarantees a best‐fit solution, simplifying the installation process and ensuring maximum safety. Self‐centering shaft adaptors

help to keep installation outlay to a minimum and completely eradicate the risk of mounting errors. Four recognised housing sizes cover all HVAC applications – including challenging installations such as air‐conditioning solutions in trains. Reducing outlay and increasing convenience, networked OpenAir

Variable Air Volume (VAV) controllers feature standardised and open communications protocols, allowing for installation in all systems, regardless of manufacturer. Fast and simple adjustments to VAV boxes pave the way for simple, stress‐free installation. On top of the energy saving

benefits, flexibility and ease of installation, OpenAir damper actuators offer exceptionally quiet operation and outstanding levels of reliability. Modbus RTU enabled models are easily integrated into existing systems and wiring costs are kept to a minimum as there is no need for point‐to‐point wiring.

Further enhancing the appeal,

users benefit from a wide range of positioning forces, control signals, communications standards and add‐on options – whatever the application, there is an OpenAir damper actuator to suit all tastes. Siemens Building Technologies

has developed the HIT tool (HVAC Integrated Tool) which allows users to enter the part number from a different manufacturer and find the equivalent damper actuator from the OpenAir range. This innovative online tool is accessible at http://hit.sbt.siemens.com/rwd/ap p.aspx?RC=HQEU&lang=en Further information on the OpenAir portfolio as well as a series of informative animations can be found at:
