PRODUCTS EDITOR'S CHOICE NEW RANGE OF INSTRUMENT BOXES

New to the CamdenBoss DIN-Rail enclosure range is the CDIB family of instrument boxes, designed to help speed electrical and electronic products to market. These are supplied in kit form for fast, snap-fit assembly, with the low profile size offering a slimline 35mm DIN-Rail mount enclosure. The deep profile case, meanwhile, provides more internal space for those applications with larger components and boards. Measuring 106.2 x 90 x

31.9mm high for the low profile version and 114.05mm high for the deeper cases, these can be fully customised. Complementing the new enclosures is CVB-Plus, a vertical

DIN-Rail mount housing complete with 16 (four x 4-pole) 5mm pitch pluggable terminal blocks. This is 22.5mm wide.

CamdenBoss www.camdenboss.com NON-CONTACTING MAGNETIC ENCODERS

The Vert-X 48E series non-contacting magnetic encoder from Variohm EuroSensor is a two-part design with no mechanical bearing or joint between the magnet and sensor components. This has a 48 x 17mm sensor housing which is fully sealed to IP68/IP69K and has resolution options of 12 or 14 bits with a choice of single and redundant output types for 0..10V, and 4…20mA, as well as single and redundant CANopen versions. The wide ranging supply voltage of 8…35V DC will suit a wide variety of position feedback tasks. The robust sensors are aimed at precision angle

measurement on agricultural, mining or construction equipment, and where extreme environment conditions exist and accurate control is required for steering, guiding or positioning, etc. Offering simple installation between rotating and stationary components in steering, drive chain, guide or other transmission mechanics, the sensor works with an air-gap of up to 13mm depending on the sensor type and an optional ‘detection of magnetic loss’ feature will signal a system shut-down in case of the magnetic actuator moving out of a valid air-gap range. In addition, its axial alignment allows up to 13mm between the sensor and magnet rotation axes as well as a good tolerance of tilting and radial misalignment.

MONITORING HYDROGEN-COOLED GENERATORS

The new XTC601 from Michell Instruments is an analyser dedicated to monitoring hydrogen-cooled electricity generators. This has been designed with three phase profiles to cover all of the gas analysis requirements for operation and maintenance. Hydrogen is used as a coolant in generators because it is the most efficient cooling agent and due to its low density, which reduces drag on the brushes – making the generator work more efficiently. High-purity hydrogen is required for the cooling to be effective, as well as for safe operation. However, as it is not possible to hermetically seal the generator set casings, there is the potential for moisture ingress from the surrounding air which not only reduces efficiency but introduces the risk of arcing and damage to the generator. Too much oxygen could cause an explosion. As well as monitoring the purity of hydrogen in operation, operators also routinely purge the system with CO2

to remove all the hydrogen safely, before carrying out

scheduled maintenance. The XTC601 for hydrogen cooled generators has three phase profiles to cover all stages of the process: • Normal operation: H2

measurements of the atmosphere within the generator. • Purging H2 with CO2

. Indicating when all the H2

engineers to work. The analyser has three calibration maps to

enable measurement in each of the above gas mixtures. As with all of Michell’s Thermal Conductivity analysers, the non-depleting sensor makes it highly cost-effective over its lifetime as there are no consumable parts to replace.

Michell Instruments T: 01353 658000 A FULLY AUTOMATED PARAMETRIC TEST SYSTEM

New from Tektronix is the Keithley S540 Power Semiconductor Test System, a fully-automated, 48 pin parametric test system for wafer-level testing of power semiconductor devices and structures up to 3kV. This is optimised for use with the latest compound power semiconductor materials including silicon carbide (SiC) and gallium nitride (GaN), so can perform all high voltage, low voltage,

and capacitance tests in a single probe touch-down. The S540 can perform parametric

measurements on up to 48 pins without changing cables or probe card infrastructure. It can also perform transistor capacitance measurements such as Ciss, Coss and Crss up to 3kV, again without manual reconfiguration of test pins. Further boosting test output, the

S540 offers sub-pA measurement performance and can perform fully automated, high voltage leakage current tests in <1 sec. As a standard commercial product, the S540 offers fully traceable system specifications, safety compliance, diagnostics, and worldwide service and support.

moisture and extreme temperatures, the robust device has a full-colour touchscreen display which adjusts to lighting conditions. Using its built-in Foundation Fieldbus and HART device diagnostic software, technicians can isolate and repair problems while the devices continue to run. Simple issues can be addressed on the spot, avoiding unnecessary interruption to production. Segment and loop diagnostic tools allow users to

validate loop and fieldbus segment characteristics for easy troubleshooting. With the ValveLink Mobile app, technicians can analyse valve diagnostics easily.
