TECHNOLOGY IN ACTION ADVERTORIAL

AUMA’s Actuator Leakage Tester for Long-Term Peace of Mind

E Free laminated

Water Activity Chart L

abcell is offering a free laminated Water Activity Chart that can be displayed on the walls of quality assurance (QA) laboratories and production areas where water activity is measured as an in- process or end-of-line quality control check. Alternatively, as the chart is A4 sized, it can be filed as a reference document. Water activity can have a critical influence on food safety, as well as shelf life, odour, colour, flavour and texture, so this characteristic is of major interest to companies in the food industry. Measurements of water activity (also referred to as Equilibrated Relative Humidity or ERH) are commonly used as part of a goods inwards inspection protocol for ingredients, for in-process quality control checks, and end-of-line testing before batches of products are released for sale. Water activity is also invaluable in the research and development of both food products and packaging. All sizes of company rely on water activity analysis today, from multinationals to artisan producers.

very single AUMA electric valve actuator is fully pressure tested and guaranteed IP68 when delivered to site, as part of the bespoke assembly process. AUMA’s PV1691 portable leakage tester, available in the UK via AUMA’s in- house service team and many of their ACE service partners, helps users to check air and water- tightness of AUMA actuators after electrical installation, retrofits or repair work.

Environmental ingress into an actuator usually results from an external issue, such as cable glands being wrongly installed or of the wrong type. Even if water does get in, AUMA’s double seal makes sure that it can’t reach the electronic heart of the device, but the leakage tester makes it easy to check that the electrical connection is properly sealed and that O rings in the housing joints are intact and correctly seated.

AUMA’s leakage tester consists of a compact device that is attached to one of the housing openings on the actuator. An integral pump pressurises the housing, after which the clear LCD display shows the pressure loss over a predefined time period, with a pass/fail result based on a choice of pre- programmed test routines.

Battery powered for use throughout a plant, the leakage tester is supplied in a compact, robust carrying case that also includes an adaptor, leak detection spray and charger.

Precise Permeability Measurements for materials, vapours and gasses

T

he vapour permeability of materials controls a huge number of both every day and safety-critical processes in the modern

world. Applications range from the shelf life of foods and drugs, through to print and paper quality, how comfortable our clothes are, vapour losses/gains in buildings, why printers jam, and why products, seals, gaskets and even missile systems leak. The Versaperm vapour permeability measurement equipment can determine this for virtually any gas and materials over a 1000 oC temperature range with various pressure options.

The Versaperm equipment measures the permeability of both flat materials and complete finished products and enclosures. An array of different sensors, using different physical principals, enables the equipment to be used to characterise an ever expanding range of materials, compounds, containers, products and laminates.

Commonly measured gasses include water vapour, hydrocarbons, oxygen,

CO2, medical gasses and nitrogen. Versaperm

One and two input Counters simplify applications in hazardous and safe areas

EKA associates new one and two input pulse Counters can economically perform industrial counting functions in hazardous and safe areas. All models have large easy to read displays with optional backlighting, isolated synchronous pulse and 4/20mA outputs, plus dual alarms. The two input Counters can display the sum or difference of the inputs in engineering units and when configured for use with a quadrature encoder, the position and speed of a shaft or cable can be shown. Intrinsically safe models with ATEX, IECEx, US and Canadian certification may be installed in gas and dust hazardous areas. For applications in Zone 2 or 22, Ex nA and Ex tc approval of the stainless steel model permits installation without the need for Zener barriers or galvanic isolators, significantly reducing cost. Although well documented and easy to configure on-site, Counters can be supplied configured with requested scale card marking for no additional charge.
