OIL COMPANY BP TO USE HIGH RESOLUTION THERMAL IMAGING FOR A RANGE OF APPLICATIONS

A FLIR T1020 high resolution thermal camera has been purchased by oil industry giant BP. Sold by distributor Alpine Components, this advanced camera will be used for tasks ranging from checking sludge levels in tanks to checking for blocked pipes. Jonathan Hill from Alpine

Components commented: “BP’s existing FLIR thermal camera was 10 years old, which although still

working perfectly well, could not match the technology of the new camera. As a result, BP made the sensible decision to upgrade, a move that allows the company to enjoy technology that is several orders of magnitude better. For instance, the T1020 offers just shy of 800,000 pixels, whereas BP’s 10-year-old thermal camera delivers just 80,000.” Other factors that contributed to BP selecting the camera were

its greater temperature accuracy, better quality imaging and enhanced lens optics. Hill added: “The extra infrared

resolution and temperature accuracy of the T1020 camera enables BP to carry out some of their checks from safer or more convenient distances, and will hopefully ensure that the camera lasts as long as the company’s previous model.” www.flir.com

RED DOT AWARD GOES TO LASER SENSOR

Micro-Epsilon has received a Red Dot Award Industrial Design 2016 for its optoNCDT 1320/1420 laser sensors. The winning laser triangulation sensors received the award due to a number of factors. The sensors are extremely compact

With less than a month to go until the Instrumentation Scotland & Offshore Systems event takes place in Aberdeen, this issue of Instrumentation is dedicated to the two-day exhibition and conference. In the centre you will therefore find a comprehensive guide to the show. This covers the companies you can expect to see, the products that will be on show and details on the seminar programme. with an integrated controller and come with lots of new features – both internally and externally. They provide metrological innovations, sensor-specific colour coding of the cable bushing, and an intuitive web interface. In addition, the extremely small laser spot size, which is focused through an optical system to a very small diameter, enables the measurement of extremely fine details. These predefined presets and the quality slider enable easy sensor configuration and parameter set up. www.micro-epsilon.co.uk
