e fully understand that the feeling of being ‘up the creek without a


paddle’ is one that many R&D, test and monitoring engineers will have suffered during testing programmes, and advice and a solution source isn’t always on hand. This is where DJB comes in – we feel this is a gap we can fill and offer it freely to our existing and new customers. Over the last 40 years we have built up an extensive knowledge of our product applications as well as the core technology and its operating parameters. Our staff represent an ideal combination of manufacturing excellence and practical field based experience using accelerometers in a wide range of industries including Aerospace, Defence, Automotive and Electronics, this combination makes us uniquely qualified to advise our customers as to the best solution to meet challenging or indeed simple test requirements. The solution isn’t always obvious and what the engineer thinks is the right solution isn’t always the case. This transfer of knowledge is the main


driver behind the DJB Training program. There has been a gradual loss, through retirement, of experienced vibration and test engineers over the last decade and the engineers of today who are carrying out the testing benefit from very powerful software and data acquisition systems which, on the surface, seem to offer a trouble free way of testing. However this actually presents more problems than it does solutions. The old adage of ‘rubbish in equals rubbish out’ is very much in force, if the engineer doesn’t select the right sensor, mount it correctly and use the right cable in the right way they will inevitably introduce errors into the signal being analysed and, however clever the software is, it will not know good from bad data. The loss of experience to educate and


train the next generation of engineers means there is a lack of empathy with what is being tested, so that ‘gut feeling’ if results are right or wrong has been lost and software results are believed almost without question.
