Such is their sensitivity that the accelerometers can literally detect a dropped pin.


A typical example of PCB Piezotronics’ range of seismic accelerometers is model 393B31 which operates down to 0.07Hz with a sensitivity of 10V/g. This performance makes it ideal for use in a wide variety of civil engineering applications including bridge movement detection, remote pipeline intrusion detection, military establishment intruder detection and rail movement detection – monitoring the effects of train movement on nearby buildings and structures.

Firm avoids £50,000 electrical supply upgrade using ABB drive

Installing the wood chipping machine, known as a hogger, would add 70 A to the load, exceeding the available supply capacity. Improving the supply to account for the higher power demand would have required the company to install a new transformer costing £23,000. “We would also need to contribute to the connection of the transformer to the external utility supply.
