ow available from HBM is the new MCS10 multi- component sensor, which enables multiple forces and torques along three axes to be simultaneously measured. The new MCS10 multi- component sensor features an optimised design which minimises the effect of crosstalk across the axes and offers a variety of configuration options to ensure simple integration combined with high precision. Suitable for use in diverse applications such as robotics, test bench design and assembly lines, the compact design of the MCS10 lends itself to a huge range of other applications where dual- axis measurement is required. Featuring a compact and cylindrical design, the latest range of multi- component sensors is also available in a six- component sensor version for additional acquisition of torques in the x, y and z direction. Easy to use, the new MCS10,
N which incorporates TEDS
functionality combined with HBM measurement electronics, can be simply integrated into a system to achieve accurate test results across the entire measurement chain.

accelerometers for ground vibration measurements. The accelerometers enable detection of ultra-low level, low frequency vibrations associated with large civil engineering structures, foundations and earth tremors. Such is their sensitivity that the accelerometers can literally detect a dropped pin.
A typical example of PCB Piezotronics’ range of seismic accelerometers is model 393B31 which operates down to 0.07Hz with a sensitivity of 10V/g. This performance makes it ideal for use in a wide variety of civil engineering applications including bridge movement detection, remote pipeline intrusion detection, military establishment intruder detection and rail movement detection – monitoring the effects of train movement on nearby buildings and structures.

Firm avoids £50,000 electrical supply upgrade using ABB drive
machine. The installed production machinery at garden and architectural stonework specialist, Haddonstone, was collectively drawing 200 A, and at the limit of the company’s electrical supply. Installing the wood chipping machine, known as a hogger, would add 70 A to the load, exceeding the available supply capacity. Improving the supply to account for the higher power demand would have required the company to install a new transformer costing £23,000. “We would also need to contribute to the connection of the transformer to the external utility supply. It could have ended up costing us anything up to £50,000,” says Haddonstone’s production director Tony Mason. ABB authorised value provider Inverter Drives Systems recommended

any of our solutions incorporate instruments and components such as thermal mass flow meters and controllers and capacitance manometers produced by our Principals, with all of whom we have enjoyed long-standing relationships. In many cases, where our customers identify gaps in product ranges, Chell has developed solutions to fill those gaps – Leak Rate Monitors for the Power Generation industry is an example. Performance has been our watchword since inception and our policy has always been to provide calibration facilities for every measurement device we supply. This has resulted in an ISO17025 accredited UKAS calibration facility having some of the lowest uncertainties available outside National Standards, so that products purchased from us have the highest measurement integrity.

hen flow measurement is critical, consult the specialists. Litre Meter has been leading the field since 1975, with a well- established reputation for the design, manufacture and supply of flow meters of all kinds.
“Litre Meter -About us” W
Litre Meter pioneered the development of the Pelton wheel flowmeter: an accurate, effective and versatile design suitable for many different fluids including acids, chemicals, fuels, water and hot fats, at both high and low flow rates. Since 1986 Litre Meter has developed the VFF meter (literally,
Viscous Fluids Flowmeter) for low flow and high pressure applications for the offshore industry particularly for chemical injection. We are continuously innovating and have introduced new flaw ranges, meter designs and flowmeter calibrators recently. Our portfolio for the UK now includes flowmeters of all kinds, including rotary meters, gas flowmeters, helical screw flowmeters and ultrasonic flowmeters to handle a wide range of viscosities, flow rates and pressures, aggressive liquids for hazardous or adverse environments.
