YOKOGAWA RECEIVES ORDER FOR MAJOR UK FUEL PIPELINE PROJECT
Yokogawa has received an order from the British Pipeline Agency (BPA) to supply a control and management system for a multi- product fuel pipeline system. This project will replace the BPA’s
existing pipeline management, supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems. The pipeline system consists of
three integrated multi-product fuel pipelines that, altogether, are some 650km in length and extend from Ellesmere port in northwestern England to the southeastern coast. The pipelines connect to the City of London’s airports and are a critical part of the UK’s infrastructure. This order is for Yokogawa’s
Enterprise Pipeline Management Solution (EPMS), which will manage functions such as oil storage and delivery scheduling, and the FAST/TOOLS SCADA software, which will monitor and control the oil
pipelines and related equipment such as compressors. The EPMS supplements a basic pipeline management system with specific gas and liquid applications that enable a pipeline operator to manage delivery contracts and associated logistics in a time and energy efficient manner. With the SCADA system covering monitoring and control, the EPMS will integrate
SENSORS HELP KICK START SMART VILLAGE
Sensorex dissolved oxygen and pH sensors are being used to monitor shrimp farms in a pioneering ‘Smart Village’ in India. Three sets of Sensorex DO6441 dissolved oxygen (DO) and S8000 modular pH sensors have been deployed to measure water quality and key aquaculture parameters to increase the yield and efficiency of shrimp farming in Mori Village. The Smart Village project seeks to extend the concept of connected ‘Smart Cities’ to rural villages, where more than half of the world’s population reside. Mori Village is the first prototype of the concept. Shrimp farming is one of the five top industries
that make up the economic base in the village of 8,000 residents. It has the potential for high margin returns but can also be high risk due to preventable disease. Traditionally, manual samples of the water were taken and sent to a lab - a labour intensive and time consuming

process. The delay between taking a reading and waiting for the results meant critical time was lost in addressing any imbalances. The sensors resolve these issues. One set of DO and pH sensors is deployed in three separate shrimp ponds, taking water quality readings critical to maintaining the health of the livestock. The probes are equipped with Sensorex’s 4-20mA output modules, which feed into a PLC running an app. The app is accessed from a mobile device and displays real-time readings of pH and DO. The app enables control of the pond’s aerators, which can be operated remotely via the app.

ENDRESS+HAUSER IACET ACCREDITED
The International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) has awarded accreditation status to Endress+Hauser. IACET Accredited Providers are the only organisations approved to offer IACET Continuing Education Units (CEUs). The accreditation period extends for five years, and includes all programmes offered or created during that time. These CEUs are recognised, accepted and even required by many agencies and credentialing organisations. Endress+Hauser completed a rigorous application process, including a
review by an IACET site visitor, to achieve its Accredited Provider accreditation. The organisation successfully demonstrated adherence to the ANSI/IACET 1-2013 Standard addressing the design, development, administration and evaluation of its programmes. Endress+Hauser has pledged its continued compliance with the Standard, and is now authorised to use the IACET name and Accredited Provider logo on promotional course material. In addition, Endress+Hauser is now linked to the IACET website and is recognised as offering the highest quality continuing education and training programmes.

commented: "An MCERTS certificate demonstrates compliance with the performance requirements of the Environment Agency, which means that these instruments will be ideal for monitoring particle matter (PM) from construction projects, traffic and industrial sources." With a ‘cloud’ based data
management system, the Environmental DustTrak gives users access to real-time data on dust levels, with the optional addition of other sensors. Alarm conditions can be set so that text and email alerts are issued when threshold levels arise. The models are available
in three configurations and are capable of monitoring PM Total, PM10, PM2.5 and PM1.0 mass fractions simultaneously. The latest version is equipped with a heated inlet, enabling longer run times, increased accuracy and the ability to measure in a variety of temperatures and humidity.

CONNECTORS FOR TEXTILE MACHINERY
Belden has been selected to supply a ruggedised industrial connectivity solution for a German textile machinery manufacturer. The textile machinery manufacturer produces assembly parts for
knitting machines and requires a high level of precision and accuracy in its production process. To provide this customer with improved efficiency and enhanced flexibility in their manufacturing operations, Belden worked with
h.team and Erhardt + Abt to develop a fully- automated robot system that could be moved to any operations location without requiring modifications. The collaborators selected Belden’s LioN-R modules and M12 connectors to provide a signal solution that could operate in extreme dust and vibrations. manager, Belden, said: “The machine building sector is up against major space constraints. In this application, a single LioN-R module will meet the manufacturer’s requirements, and it also gives them flexibility to decide how to use any combination of input and output channels. This not only enables fast and reliable signal transmission, but also reduces the amount of wiring needed, which will lower this manufacturer’s overall installation and maintenance costs.”
