Kistler launch the next generation of cylinder pressure sensors

istler Instruments, part of the world leading Kistler Group, is launching the next generation of uncooled cylinder pressure sensors. The Type 6124A has a measuring range of 0 to 300 bar and is equally suited to laboratory and on-road applications in challenging environments. The key to the performance of the new sensor is the high sensitivity of Kistler’s PiezoStar® crystal even with the compact physical design. The sensor offers excellent thermal sensitivity and linearity characteristics (thermal sensitivity shift ≤±1 %) and linearity (≤± 0.3 %) with a measuring range of 0 to 300 bar at up to 350°C. The combination of high sensitivity and excellent thermodynamic characteristics delivers high- precision and accurate measurements. The decoupling of the measuring element and an improved cable connection ensures that

the Type 6124A can deliver an excellent lifetime, even under harsh operating conditions and the new sensor, being uncooled, is suitable for test-cell applications and in-vehicle testing.

Alicat Adds Backlit Monochrome Display to Mass Flow and Pressure Instruments A

licat Scientific has added backlighting as a standard feature on monochrome LCD displays for its core range of mass flow meters, mass flow controllers and pressure controllers. The backlighting illuminates Alicat’s full-information, menu-driven, multi-parameter LCD display screens for easy reading, regardless of lighting conditions. Though reliable and dependable, with low power consumption

needs, monochrome LCD screen crystals lack strong contrast, meaning these screens are best read in well-lit situations. With the new illuminated display, users can toggle the backlight on and off at the press of the button for easier reading and programming in darker environments. The new feature now comes standard on most Alicat instruments with monochrome LCD displays. Illuminated Thin-film Transistor multi-colour display and display-free instrument options remain available to suit customer preference.

boards. The SMT172 is a complete digital ultra-low power, fully calibrated, high accuracy sensor with pulse width modulated output signal. The duty cycle is proportional to the measured temperature. Accuracy is less than 0.1 ºC in the range of -10ºC to 100ºC and accuracy of 0.4ºC from -45ºC to 130ºC (max temp) with very low noise of 0.0001ºC. Supply voltage from 2.7 V to 5.5 V. This is the most energy efficient temperature sensor in the world with an average current of < 60uA or 220nA (1 measurement / second).

Evaluation boards

SMTAS04USB (max. 4 sensors) and SMTAS08USB (max. 8 sensors) with mini USB port can power and read the temperature sensors. When using the SMT172TOI2C adapter the sensor can be used with an I²C bus. Applications are medical devices, vending machines, environmental controls, food processing and PCB component protection.

ABLE Instruments & Controls Ltd is pleased to announce that they have been granted a patent for their latest invention

This latest advancement is a product of ABLE’s innovative Research & Development Division, specialists in ultrasonic metering techniques, and is designed to address difficult process parameters across varying media. The patent covers the core technology at the heart of ABLE’s current and projected MasterTM Series of instrumentation, which uses a dual measurement intelligent algorithm to resolve demanding application challenges and consistently deliver accurate flow measurements during process upsets and fluctuations in composition.

ABLE’s MasterTM Series includes:

MS Electronics has available Smartec temperature sensor SMT172 and evaluation

The MudMaster provides real time drilling fluids measurement in partially full pipe conditions. Flow and density are quantified independently using a proprietary enhancement of established measurement techniques to produce reliable, accurate and repeatable real time data including mass flow balance. The instrument is spool mounted to bolt directly into the mud outlet pipe and the non-contact nature of the technologies employed provides no restriction to mud flow, zero pressure drop and no moving or process contact parts subject to wear or requiring maintenance.

FlareMasterTM Extended Velocity, Dual Redundancy Supervisory System

SlugMasterTM Intelligent Ultrasonic Flow Meter

The SlugMaster uses dual ultrasonic DD (Dynamic Density™) technology and was specifically developed by ABLE to reliably measure liquid flow during complications arising from changes in process parameters when the density varies with gas volume fraction. Transit Time ultrasonic flow metering is used during periods of low aeration with intelligent switching to Reflexor metering during heavy aeration, slugging, slurry or solid particle entrainment. The SlugMaster is available in both dedicated and portable versions

PhaseMasterTM

A multiphase variant of the SlugMaster, the PhaseMasterTM, has been developed from the same fundamental principal to deliver individual phase component measurements. This can be used to realise either a higher accuracy of liquid flow measurement in a multiphase environment or quantify specific constituent parts of gas / fluid mixtures.

ABLE’s FlareMaster represents an enhancement of Fluenta’s current generation flare gas meter, the FGM160-II, ensuring that the flow measurement is reliable and repeatable under all process conditions regardless of extremes (both high and low) in flow velocities and significant diversity in gas densities. The enhancement also increases the maximum measurable flow velocity to higher than that achievable with any other flare meter technology, approaching 1000m/sec (Mach 3). On a fundamental level the FlareMaster offers dual redundant protection against loss of measurement under all process conditions, which is a failing common to all standard flare gas meters under extreme blow down conditions.

DuctMasterTM Ultra – Low Velocity HVAC Transmitter & Switch

ABLE has developed a highly sensitive duct velocity metering system for measurements down to 1m/sec. The sensing element is ABLE’s bespoke design and can be manufactured to fit any duct size and fitting. The DuctMaster has been devised to address specific low-flow HVAC applications. Two and four- wire switch and transmitter versions are available.
