ittal is launching a new generation of lights designed specifically for enclosures. The range sets new standards for energy and high performance using LED technology which will deliver up to 1,200 lumens, and for easy installation, there are simple connection and mounting options.
Lighting is an area that is often neglected in the design of enclosures and yet it plays a vital role in helping with installation and maintenance. The ability to easily identify different wire colours, for example, is clearly vital for both. “Working within an enclosure is far simpler if the space is illuminated with our state-of-the-art lighting technology,” says Paul Metcalfe, Product Manager for Enclosures.
Rittal’s
“High-performance lighting also helps to avoid errors during installation, maintenance or repair work, and avoid expensive delays. Added to which, the simple mounting of the lights saves valuable workshop time.”

range of dock levellers for every application. The company’s telescopic lip levellers are controlled using push buttons to achieve raising and lowering plus extension and retraction of the lip. In operation, the platform is raised above the height of the vehicle deck and the lip is extended. The platform is then lowered until the lip forms a bridge with the vehicle deck. As loads are transferred, the platform follows the up and down movement of the vehicle. Importantly, the extension of the lip is infinitely variable therefore the leveller can be safely used to serve vehicles that have not reversed sufficiently far enough to make contact with the dock’s bumpers. The telescopic lip also allows precise vehicle loading up to the edge of the vehicle’s deck thereby ensuring maximum space utilisation.

Tile maker cuts energy costs by 30 percent with ABB drive
£
4,800 per year is cut from a tile manufacturer’s energy bill following the replacement of a fluid coupling with a variable- speed drive (VSD) on one of its glaze mills. The fluid-coupling at British Ceramic Tile (BCT)’s production facility in Devon connected a motor to a gearbox, and regulated the speed of the drum which grinds the frit used in the glazing of tiles. However, the fluid coupling was proving unreliable, suffering random failures resulting in oil leakage from temperature hot spots. The leaking, hot hydraulic oil was, in turn, a potential health and safety hazard to shop floor employees. Authorised value provider, APDS, replaced the fluid coupling with
a VSD, resulting in an energy saving of 30 percent. This is attributed, in part, to the reduced starting torque, which draws 100A for the first minute compared to the same current being drawn for over an hour with the fluid coupling.
