FOOD & BEVERAGE Are you aware of the quality of your compressed air?

tmospheric air in an industrial environment can contain up to 150 million dirt particles per m3. More than 75% of these particles are below 2 micron and will pass through the compressor intake filter. The atmosphere contains micro-organisms typically bacteria and viruses, warm moist air is an ideal “culture” for colonisation. Typically, 1m3 contains up to 4000. Water is vital to life but in a compressed air system causes major problems,

A it

combines with compressor oil to form an aggressive acidic viscous emulsion which creates havoc with pneumatic systems.

In our experience compressed air contamination

is generally only considered during the packaging phase of manufacturing, however, contamination of compressed air through direct or indirect contact with the end product poses a much greater risk, and therefore a potential hazard.

Compressed air is used in most production processes. It is often used to transport or to mix products, purge moulds, clean canisters and containers, and also used in the direct production of end products. As a result, it comes into direct contact with the actual end product.

In view of the compressed air applications that pose a risk of contaminating end products with mineral oil, BEKO TECHNOLOGIES recommend online measurement procedures to ensure that compressed air is monitored at all “Critical Control Points” whether it be contact and non-contact with the product.

Periodic or even sporadic sampling and subsequent laboratory analysis would only provide a snapshot of the situation at the time of the

sampling, and not continual, uninterrupted analysis of compressed air and therefore quality of the end product. In order to be in a position to deliver this conclusive and continual quality assurance, BEKO TECHNOLOGIES have developed online measurement equipment to monitor air quality standards down to ISO 8573-1 Class 1 for particulate, dew point and oil.

In the past, we have also developed tailor-made solution concepts for the food and pharmaceuticals industry,

and we have implemented these solutions in partnership with the relevant industry. In conjunction with our measurement technology, we also offer an extensive downstream equipment range that meets all criteria set out in the ISO 8573-1 standards.
