NEWS Foundations set for WLIC 2027
THE foundations of WLIC 2027 are starting to take shape with applications received for the National Committee. The pace and scale of planning for the London World Library and Information Congress (WLIC) 2027 means sig- nificant decisions and actions are already being made, with applications for volunteers to the National Committee clos- ing on 13 February. The committee will help deliver the event and its members and chair (or Co-Chairs) will be announced soon. The committee positions are tailored to specific areas of work with members skilled and experienced in those areas. These include committee members for:
l Volunteers; l sponsorship and exhibitors;
l social events – advising on the content and location of one or more ‘cultural evening’ social events; l delegate marketing;
l library visits/satellite meetings – Recruiting and liaising with libraries who may wish to host satellite meetings; l press/promotion;
l programme – Working with IFLA HQ on suggestions for speakers and sessions; l visas.
CILIP actions As the lead bid partner for the world’s biggest library and infor mation conference, CILIP will be focused on planning and programming throughout 2026. This temporary shift in focus means that CILIP’s own Conference will be taking a break in 2026 to give the events team enough time to work on the project. The CILIP Conference, which usually takes place in July, will also not run in 2027 as the WLIC confer- ence will take place that summer. Although an international event attracting over 4,000 delegates from 150 countries, over a 1000 of these are expected to come from the UK making it a significant national event as well.
However, while CILIP’s central team focuses on delivery of
WLIC, it will maintain a busy events schedule throughout the year supported by CILIP’s many networks and Special Interest Groups. This starts with the free to attend Members’ Fest in March
(see full programme on pp 46-48) and continues with mem- ber networks delivering must-attend events throughout 2026. CILIP members are eligible for a discount on all of these events as well as a significant reduction for WLIC in 2027.
