Maryland’s 1st Sensory-Sensitive Therapy Arena

On June 10, T erapeutic and Recreational Riding Center, Inc. (TRRC) in Glenwood, broke ground on the area’s only indoor sensory- sensitive therapy riding arena. Once construct- ed, the arena will serve children and young adults diagnosed with Autism and other sen- sory-processing challenges such as Asperger’s, ADD, and ADHD. Howard County is home to the state’s largest population of children with Autism, and TRRC currently has a waiting list for those needing treatment. TRRC launched its $75,000 fundraising cam- paign, “Raise the Roof,” in October of last year. T e Finish Line Youth Foundation in Indiana

Getting social with The Equiery! continued... Twitter (@equiery)

T e Equiery’s twitter account in July saw a lot of action throughout the month. Followers seemed to love the various photos from the July is- sue we posted, especially the one of Colton Trainum riding backwards in the leadline class at PV- DA’s June Jr. Show. On July 16, T e Equiery and many others were reporting live from Pimlico at Canter for the Cause. Coverage of the USPC championships saw a lot of re-tweets, including a link to our news page story on the over 100 Maryland pony clubbers competing at this national competition. Finally, the month ended with a bit of a sad note as many tweeted photos and well wishes to those associated with the leg- endary fl at track turf horse Ben’s Cat, who was euthanized on July 15 after colic surgery.

Our Instagram followers keep growing exponentially - and we thank

you! Our July posts started with a medieval twist, Medieval Times, that is. T e Equiery staff visited the dinner theater, and we were treated to a back stage stable tour with head trainer, Georgiy Gibizov, a former circus rider, and head knight Josh Brown. During the month, we also had a chance to ride atop the 20-Mule Team Borax Wagon, if you haven’t seen it, it’s amazing. Our most popular post of the month was a photo submitted by Car-

olyn Mackintosh, organizer of the Maryland Horse Trials, of Colleen Rutledge, her husband Brian, and her daughter Cassie, with some of Colleen’s prizes from winning the Maryand International CIC2**. T e most liked video of the month was of Tara Shegogue and her horse Ridin’

Shotgun doing their dressage test at the Maryland Horse Tri- als I. A close second favorite video was Full Moon Farm’s Stephen Fulton and Leo the Lion Hearted doing their dressage test during Maryland Horse Trials II.
