A sprinkler system will minimize dust for children who struggle with asthma and compromised lung function. An existing outdoor mount- ing ramp will be incorporat- ed for access by wheelchairs, and large heaters will allow for use year-round. T erapy equipment and signage will ensure the safety of riders, and large mirrors will aid them in observing body po- sition.

Hunter classes (formerly named the Future Hunter division) have been among the most popular classes at the annual championship horse show, and the division has shown itself to be a proving ground for up-and-coming talent. But no national points! “I really think that this is the place where the next superstar hunters are determined,” said show manager Oliver Kennedy, referenc- ing past Future Hunter class winners who went on to exemplary success, including Bacardi,

proved 11 facilities in 10 counties to become certifi ed Maryland Horse Discovery Cen- ters: Rose of Sharon (Baltimore), Chesapeake T erapeutic (Harford), JD Farm (Carroll), vR Growth & Learning Center (Howard), High Ridge Farm (Carroll), Vandermere (St. Mary’s), STAR Equestrian Center (Washing- ton), Silhouette Stables (Frederick), Mexico Farms (Allegany), Westbrook Horse Farm (PG), and Morningside Stables (AA). To be eligible for certifi cation, licensed sta- bles should have gateway programs that help introduce people to horses in a friendly and knowledgeable environment. Programs do not have to be hands-on. Certifi ed facilities off er a creative range of programs, from traditional trail riding to Civil War reenactments, plus summer camps, pony ride parties, beginner rid- ing lessons and more. Criteria included proof of commercial liability insurance; written pro- grams and procedures addressing safety rules and public outreach; clean, sanitary conditions, equipment and facilities; and of course, well- cared-for and healthy horses!
