MARINE WAVE GIVING BACK Halifax Tugs donate to the IWK Health Care Foundation

Crew from the Atlantic Oak, the Atlantic Larch and the Atlantic Willow recently presented a cheque for $4,650.00 to the Halifax IWK Health Centre Foundation, which supports world-class care for women, children, youth and families in the Maritimes. The funds raised represented a $2,325.00 donation from the crew and a $2,325.00 match from Atlantic Towing.

The crew were able to raise the funds by collecting the recyclables (pop cans, etc.) acquired on the tugs. Since the fundraiser’s inception, which was spearheaded ten years ago by now retired Ralph Combden, seaman on the Atlantic Oak, the tugs’ crews have raised $3,225.00 in support of local charities. That’s a lot of pop cans!

“Many of us have children, or know of children who have been to the IWK. It is our way of thanking them for the unmatched service they provide to our community and other communities located in the Maritimes.” says Bruno Laroque, Captain of the Atlantic Oak.

Six years ago, crews donated $2,000.00 ($1,000.00 from the crews’ efforts and a $1,000.00 match from Atlantic Towing) to the Christmas Daddies foundation, which assists Maritime children in need at Christmas.

Presentation of the cheque to the IWK Health Care Foundation took place at the Halifax base.

Fundraising efforts in support of the IWK Health Care Foundation were supported by the entire crews of the Atlantic Oak, the Atlantic Larch and the Atlantic Willow.
