Preparation for transport of the hulls also involved sealing up the stairways, exhaust casings and other openings to make sure no water went below deck in the event of a storm. BigLift’s tug, Fairplay 31 towed the Atlantic Griffon, and the Atlantic Shrike was towed by Fairplay 30. The tugs also completed the transport across the Atlantic Ocean to Halifax. Normally, Atlantic Towing’s tugs would step-in with this portion of the transport, but all of the company’s tugs were on-contract with other customers.


The tow of the hulls from Cadiz to Halifax took 22 day. Happy Sky arrived in Halifax on August 8th, and the two hulls arrived on August 16th.


“We have executed many interesting projects with our valued client Damen before, and we are honoured that they involved us in yet another technically challenging operation,” says Henk Feikens, Engineer with BigLift’s Projects Department. “The cooperation between Damen, Atlantic Towing and BigLift shipping went very smoothly and we look forward to working together again in the future.”


“With the vessel components in place, the Halifax shipyard will be responsible for welding the topsides, connecting all the piping, electrical wiring, insulation and finish work,” says Eric Bernard, Chief Engineer Offshore and Project Build Team with Atlantic Towing. “Commissioning of the various systems takes place prior to sea trials.”
