MESSAGE FROM THE GENERAL MANAGER


As we complete this issue of Marine Wave, we are in the midst of kicking off a new year at Atlantic Towing. In looking back over the past year, 2016 was a tremendous success, especially in light of the significant headwinds that challenged our Offshore sector.


Our Coastal division had a very successful year, punctuated by a very busy end to 2016. In the last quarter of 2016, our Coastal employees were fully engaged given Atlantic Towing’s lead role in the deployment of the Open Hydro tidal turbine in Minas Passage, followed by our participation with the Atlantic Larch and Atlantic Fir in the mating of the Hebron top side platform to the gravity base structure in mid-December. Both of these projects were completed successfully and our customers noted that our performance was exceptional and key to the project’s success.


In our Harbour sector, I am pleased to report that all ports performed very well this past year. In both Halifax and Belledune, we experienced increased traffic over last year, and in all ports, on-time delivery performance was very strong.


Finally, despite the market challenges that have developed and remain in the Offshore sector today, all of our vessels executed very well for our customers, while delivering tremendous results on cost control throughout the entire fleet. Most importantly, 2016 was highlighted by the excellent safety performance displayed by all sectors of Atlantic Towing, which resulted in a record year for our company with the lowest recorded incidents to date.


Given our level of activity in 2016 and the challenges presented by our work environment, everyone is to be commended on the continued improvement in safety performance. Congratulations are extended to all Atlantic Towing people on the excellent results achieved in 2016!


Once again, it gives me great pleasure to introduce another issue of our Marine Wave publication. In this edition, you will find a bit of everything for your reading pleasure, with articles featuring new employees who have recently joined Atlantic Towing and stories about employees who have been with our company for many years. We also feature an overview of the technology and construction of our four new offshore supply vessels, our work at the Port of Belledune and, our involvement in the Tidal Energy sector.
