ublished since 1993, DK now produces more than 200 guides, covering many countries, regions and cities worldwide. A DK Eyewitness Travel Guide is a wonderful travel companion and will give you a
head start on deciding what to see and do.
What makes the guides so unique? We asked the publisher, Vivien Antwi, how they were conceptu- alized and how they came up with the format idea. We came up with the idea of using illustrated cutaways and street
by street artwork and photographs, which enabled us to create a page that would take several pages to explain in a traditional guide book. Te street by street artwork offer an illustrated bird’s eye view of parts of a city that give the reader a feel for that city, but formatted as an easy to use guide. Buildings that people usu- ally walk past are annotated, bring- ing the city to life in a unique way. Te cutaways are particularly use-
ful to help explain architectural con- cepts. Tis allows readers to enter a building and by using the artworks, understand the main components and know exactly what parts of the building they want to see. Hundreds of images are used in
each book because we want to make travelers feel as if they were already there prior to their arrival. Also, the use of front-on photos
of main attractions makes it even easier to see once someone is on their trip. In fact, many of our readers take the exact same pho- tos that we use. For each book, we use a team of designers, editors,
