Themedieval Rialtomarket, which ismore than 900 years old and is

considered bymany to be the best in the world, is located in the heart of the city, in the San Polo district near the Rialto Bridge at the narrowest point of theGrand Canal. No visit is complete without spending some time here. The produce market is openMonday through

Saturday, from 7:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., and it’s filled with piles of fresh fruits and vegetables, many of which come from Sant‘Erasmo, a nearby island, as well as elsewhere in the Veneto region. It is here that you can find the rare “castraure” artichoke that only grows on Sant’Erasmo.
