Quality workforce

POWERING A SAFE, VALUED AND ENGAGED WORKFORCE From biologists and linemen to customer service representatives and generation plant managers — each of our employees has a pivotal role to play in delivering value to customers.

Skilled workforce

The last three years have seen a sharp rise in retirements, and between now and 2020, more than 40 percent of our current employees will reach PGE’s retirement eligibility age of 55. At the same time, finding qualified employees is becoming more difficult as fewer people pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and math (also known as STEM), including the skilled trades. These challenges make it more critical than ever for us to recruit and maintain a skilled workforce.

RECRUITING THE NEXT GENERATION

PGE works with community and education partners to support successful student pathways to the trades, through career technical education.

We also reach out to the future workforce by sponsoring the Business Education Compact STEM Connect program that takes place during National Engineers Month. In 2014, 33 PGE volunteers worked to inspire students in Oregon and Southwest Washington to pursue careers in STEM-related fields. PGE has reached more than 10,000 students through this program since 2006.

Our summer hire program and internships provide another way for us to connect with local college students who may one day become full-time employees. We hire more than 50 college students and interns each year to work in areas such as engineering, power plant operations, corporate communications, finance and human resources.

EMPLOYEE RETENTION From an attractive benefits package to a culture that treats employees with dignity and respect and motivates them to serve our customers in the best way possible, we strive to create a workplace our employees can take pride in and where they can thrive.
