THE MAGAZINE FOR THE DRAINAGE, WATER & WASTEWATER INDUSTRIES
EVENTS NEWS
This year’s Forum analyzed the latest policies, discussed the strategic direction of water management, how digitalization helps to achieve sustainable development of efficient water management and water-carbon nexus. The Forum was jointly hosted by Ecolab, Global Water Intelligence, Alliance for Water Stewardship (AWS), CHC Expo and Aquatech.
Special attention for Digitalisation of Water
After a run up with four online events, China Europe Water Platform (CEWP) co-organised two hybrid seminars: ‘Digitalisation in the Water Sector’ and ‘Circular Economy and the Water Sector’. With field experts, utilities, governmental organizations and companies they discussed developments on this particular topics. Even though the utilization of digital technology has increased in the water sector, it is still behind other industries with regard to integrating new smart technologies and digital transformations. Digitalisation can help water- and sanitation companies as well as government bodies to address many of the challenges they face. The seminar ‘Circular Economy and the Water Sector’ focused on
identifying the link of Circular Economy and the Water Sector in China and to further discuss the opportunities that the market offers and how to access the market.
“More than 300 experts from 20 countries attended the online webinars, which were professionally managed by Aquatech. The
webinars gave insight to already existing solutions and framework conditions were improved in order to strengthen market functioning and market uptake of high-end solutions”, says Henrik Dissing, International Portfolio Manager, Ministry of Environment and Food of Denmark.
IFAT 2022: exhibitor interest at pre-COVID level
Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, climate and environmental protection are once again pushing their way to the top of the social discussion agenda. The global environmental sector is forecast to grow strongly over the coming years. IFAT reflects this trend with a high level of registrations from exhibitors around the world.
IFAT 2022 will be one of the first major trade shows to take place after the pandemic- related trade fair break—and “we are steering the right course to reaching IFAT’s pre-COVID- 19 level,” explains Stefan Rummel, Managing Director of Messe München. “The current number of registrations is as high as in 2018. Exhibitors from all over the world finally want to present their technologies and solutions in Munich again. And we observe this interest across all exhibition sectors.” The world's leading trade fair for water, sewage, waste, and raw materials management thus reflects the trend: the global market for environmental technologies is predicted to grow by more than seven percent annually, in Germany by eight percent (GreenTech Atlas 2021/Federal Ministry for the Environment).

Promoting circular economy and climate resilience
IFAT has three focus areas. First: circular economy. The aim is to close raw material cycles in collaboration with the industry, ranging from product design and recycling to the use of recycled materials. Second: climate- resilient drinking water and wastewater systems. To be prepared for weather extremes, investments in the industry and in municipal structures are needed. Third: alternative drive systems in municipal technology, including hydrogen and electric mobility for municipal vehicles.
Exhibitors arelooking forward to IFAT
Exhibitors are already intensively preparing for IFAT. REMONDIS Board Member Thomas Conzendorf explains: “The cancellation of the last edition of IFAT was bitter for the industry. Now we're excited to see this unique network back in full force.” Dr. Johannes Kirchhoff, Managing Partner, FAUN Umwelttechnik, explains: “Climate and environmental protection are high on the global agenda— and IFAT offers policymakers and the
environmental sector the best platform for international exchange.” It's all about “conserving finite resources,” says Rainer Köhler, CEO of HUBER: “IFAT highlights trends and innovations—accelerating sustainable development.”
Digital access to thetradeshow network
IFAT 2022 will be a hybrid event—digital offerings will complement the exhibition events in Munich, so that anyone interested can benefit from the IFAT network, even those not able to travel there. Conference highlights will be available to be enjoyed online, products and innovations will be presented both on-site and digitally, and participants from all over the world will be able to network online.
Protection and hygiene concept
The sophisticated protection and hygiene concept applying to trade fairs is continuously adapted to the current situation together with the responsible authorities and is tailored to IFAT.
