New innovations offered in TracStar®
McElroy announces the launch of a new series in its long-proven TracStar line that is more functional and efficient than ever before.
The TracStar Series 2 for medium-diameter pipe now shares a common vehicle that is interchangeable with the 28, 250, 412 and 618 fusion machines for 2” IPS to 18” OD thermoplastic pipe. The cowling was redesigned to provide better airflow and heat dissipation. There is also easier access to the engine when maintenance is required. An updated electrical system increases the circuit protection and a standard battery disconnect is now incorporated for easy lockout.
“The TracStar has been depended on for years because it manoeuvres so easily on any jobsite with its self- contained, self-propelled and rugged all-terrain system,” said McElroy Director of Product Development Jason Lawrence. “Part of its success is the fact that we continue to listen to our customers and incorporate many machine advances based on their experiences.”

feature a patented Centerline Guidance System for equal distribution of force around the joint. The carriage can be converted from 4- to 3-jaws for a more compact unit and is easily removable for in-ditch fusion. An on-board generator powers the hydraulics and heater, and dual hydraulic pipe lifts aid in transferring pipe.
Crowcon’s portable methane detector goes green for improved visibility in ATEX-rated environments
leaks. With a range of 30 metres in standard mode, or 100 metres with a reflector, LMm enables operators to detect methane gas from a safe distance. As the laser beam can penetrate some transparent surfaces, such as glass, LMm also detects methane through a window allowing closed premises and confined spaces to be checked faster and more safely.
LMm is ATEX approved for use in explosive environments, including remote- monitoring applications such as closed or confined spaces, above-ground riser pipes, and pressure-regulating stations.
The typical response time of LMm is just 0.1 seconds, making it ideal for quickly scanning an area for a suspected leak and further minimising the time that operators are exposed to a potentially hazardous environment.
Crowcon – a specialist manufacturer of gas detection equipment - announces that the next generation of its Laser Methane mini (LMm) gas detector combines full ATEX approval with a new green laser guide-light for improved visibility across a range of conditions, including in strong sunlight. The use of infrared laser absorption spectroscopy enhances safety by allowing operators to remain at a safe distance from potentially dangerous leaks and provides an almost instantaneous response in the presence of methane gas.

LMm uses infrared laser absorption spectroscopy which measures the specific wavelength of infrared light that is absorbed by methane gas. This provides superior accuracy and specificity for operators by making LMm immune to other gases and eliminating the risk of false alerts.
LMm performs a shelf check and an internal calibration at start up. This requires no training and ensures readings are always accurate and reliable. As LMm doesn’t need regular recalibration, it doesn’t require the routine 6-monthly maintenance that other detectors need.
LMm is a compact and lightweight unit, which enhances operator comfort and ease of use.
All measurements are displayed in both numerical and graphical formats to simplify operation.
LMm is widely used in gas distribution companies by teams responding to reports of leaks, as it enables them to respond rapidly and stay safe.
