BIM usage stopping at the building’s walls,” says Gary Morton, Head of Business Development at ACO. “If we are to develop a digital system that allows an efficient interaction with the lifecycle of the infrastructure, after it is installed, which is a vital component of BIM, then we need to extend our thinking beyond the building fabric and introduce BIM into all aspects of construction, including the surrounding landscape.”

He continued: “BIM Level 2 is hugely important and, as the first drainage company in the UK to provide BIM data, we recognise that it is vital to be part of the digitisation of the industry and to support its implementation throughout the entire supply chain. Drainage plays a vital role as the bridge between the built and the natural environment.”

Mr Morton also believes that more must be done to help smaller manufacturers lower down the construction supply chain. “The higher reaches of the construction supply chain have a good idea of what being a government client entails, but this is not the case further down. Tiers one and two understand what is required, but this is not the case across the entire supply chain. Smaller subcontractors are really struggling to get access to the levels of information required and remain concerned at the cost of getting up-to-speed with BIM.

Official statistics support Mr Morton’s concerns with figures from the National BIM Report 2016 demonstrating that a minority (37%) use models from the start of a project to the very end, which suggests that, for most, BIM is restricted to the design stages. The report also identifies that only 30% produce a model that is software independent and just 16% pass on a model to those responsible for the management of a building.

Mr Morton concluded: “ACO welcomes the UK BIM Alliance initiative. We pledge our full support to, and will be in attendance at the launch at Digital Construction Week, as well as the ICE BIM conference before, to discuss the important issues in the Construction Industry.”

Lloyd Martin appointed

Chief Executive of British Water Lloyd Martin has been appointed as Chief Executive of British Water. Mr Martin had been serving in the role on an interim basis since March 2016.

Chairman of British Water, Tony Williams, said: “I am absolutely delighted that Lloyd Martin has been appointed to the role of Chief Executive. Lloyd’s experience in the UK and internationally has already proven to be an enormous asset to the association and to our members.”

“There are substantial challenges ahead for the water industry supply chain including the opening up of the UK non-domestic retail market and the uncertainties brought about by Brexit. The Board of British Water is committed to working closely with Lloyd and his executive team to make sure our association continues to strengthen and grow.”

Lloyd Martin brings 25 years’ water industry experience working both in the UK and in international markets, including roles as regional director for Severn Trent Services International and business development manager at Anglian Water International. He has also undertaken a three-year assignment as the UK water industry’s international trade advisor to the UK Government.

Mr Martin said: “I am very pleased to continue serving as Chief Executive of British Water. The association is a nexus for water industry expertise and we are actively building stronger relationships throughout the water industry and with governmental and global organisations.

“By representing the views of our members at the highest levels, our association plays an important part

in shaping the future direction of water and environmental policy and creating opportunities for businesses to grow.”

Lloyd Martin has been appointed Chief Executive of British Water.

Water positioned as one of the most important challenges in the fight against

climate change at COP22 World Water Council emphasises the need to create synergies between the water and the climate arenas, between finance, governance and knowledge as pillars for water security and to do justice to the African continent

Following the inauguration of the first Global Climate Action Day for Water in the history of the UNFCCC, the World Water Council, through the voice of Honorary President Loïc Fauchon, presents today the outcomes of those discussions held during 9 November’s “Water Day.” Climate Action Champion, Minister Hakima El Haite and Ambassador Laurence Tubiana, receives the key recommendations with great interest in the presence of other ministers and high-level participants during the “High Level Panel on Accelerating Climate Action”. They will subsequently present their summary to governments at the closing plenary of COP22 on 18 November 2018.
