New book offers industry insider’s look at FinTech explosion
A new wave of companies is on the rise, looking to change the way people pay, send money, borrow and lend. The FinTech Book: The Financial Technology Handbook for Investors, Entrepreneurs and Visionaries, brought to you by Susanne Chishti and Janos Barberis, puts the spotlight on these innovators and what their emergence means for the financial services sector. Chishti is the CEO of FinTech Circle, a Eu- ropean Angel network focused on FinTech investments, founder of London FinTech Tours, and Chairman of FinTech Circle Innovate. Barberis is the founder of FinTech HK, a thought leadership platform, and the SuperCharger, a technology accelerator that strategically leverages on Hong Kong as a gateway to Asia. The book covers a wide range of topics, including themes, ecosystems, solutions, emerging markets and social impact, success stories, investment and capital, enterprise innovation, digital currencies and the future of FinTech. Key industry developments are explained in detail, and critical insights from cutting-edge practitioners offer first-hand information
and lessons learned. It is pitched as the first single, consol-
idated and authoritative resource on the disruption, innovation and opportunity in the financial technology sector, and is the first globally crowdsourced treatment of the topic. Chishti and Barberis believed that no one author, organisation or region in the world was able to exhaustively cover all the facets and nuances of FinTech. They therefore selected contributions from a range of individuals and organisations, from entrepreneurs working for startups, to service providers, SMEs and employees of large organisations. It’s certainly an intriguing approach.
It’s not entirely successful; somewhat in- evitably certain parts of the book grabbed my attention while others had me skipping pages. But overall, this is a commendable attempt to get to grips with a complex, sprawling topic. Well worth grabbing a copy when it is released in early April. Further details at
