Catch the Vision God Provides an Opportunity
by Trevor Kirsch
I have always been a shy and introspective person. For a long time I have used that as an excuse to not actively share my faith with others. Since our church joined the FEBC in 2012, God has been convicting me of that excuse and opening my heart to look for opportunities to be obedient. I have still missed more opportuni- ties than I have taken, but I would like to share one experience I had recently. I do bookkeeping for a friend whom I have known for about
15 years. He is not a believer, nor is he interested in becoming one, yet due to our friendship he has allowed me to share the gospel with him a few times. Over the past several years I have been drawn to pray regularly for him instead of sporadically as I used to do. I’ve started looking for opportunities to share my faith; and the last time I was there God gave me one. We enjoyed our usual coffee before I started working, but instead of talking for 20–30 minutes, this time we talked for over an hour. I usually struggle with starting to share my faith or steering a
conversation to matters of faith or finding the words to say. How- ever, this time God started it for me and continued to give me the words to say. My friend grew up in a home that was very antago- nistic towards the gospel, and he has carried that legacy himself
and passed it on to his sons, but as we shared together he opened up more than he ever has before. Every previous discussion we have ever had regarding matters of faith has always been primar- ily academic — he is merely curious about what I do and what I believe. He has always been polite, but never personally interested. Tis time was different. I saw the hurt in his heart and the pain in his soul. He is still not ready to commit, but for the first time I see some evidence that he is searching for God. I have three reasons for sharing this. First, please pray with
me that God will soſten his heart and draw my friend to him- self. Second, I want to affirm God’s sovereignty over timing and opportunities. A few days before I visited, my friend had watched Courageous on TV. Rather than being offended or turned off, he was impressed and prepared for our discussion. Tird, I want to encourage you to look for and take opportunities to share the Good News of Jesus Christ. If I can do it, you can do it.
