France Moves to BAN Cheap Airfares
FRANCE wants to go one step further in its fight against flights as it seeks to impose a minimum ticket price to end ultra cheap airfares. Transport Minister Clément Beaune plans to propose a minimum price policy to the EU saying the aim is to reduce carbon emissions.
The Minister claims: “€10 cheap airfares isn’t possible anymore. It doesn’t reflect the price for the planet.”
France has already taken some drastic measures, banning short flights where train travel is available. However, European train tickets are often twice as expensive as flights.
France Raises Taxes on Flights
FRANCE will raise taxes on airline tickets as a way to motivate more people to use the train system. France’s Transport Minister Clément Beaune announced
measures as data revealed travel by air is often cheaper than train travel. The changes will be applied to routes between Paris and regional cities like such as Lyon, Nantes and Bordeaux.
